The only thing that could make it scarier is if it ended with 'You've got mail"

Sounds like the D.C. Wasteland.

I was about to complain about the adding of echo, then I read this:
"I edited the final product a bit to remove long silences and some white noise length, and to try to even the volume out a bit. I didn't add any echo or whatnot, that's just what happens when you want to slow down a sound file without affecting the pitch or sounding like shiat, so blame the program, not me."

...and remembered what a timestretch actually does. THAT close to making myself look like a twat.

That modem is going to eat my dreams.

This is a repeat. A creepy as hell repeat.

Sounds like Brian Eno and Trent Reznor in the studio together after a few shots of absinthe.

Do you recall what the original headline said?

That would fit in some creepy-ass sci-fi, where some unknown is going to eat someone, or just generic horror. Like background music in The Thing, it would be perfect.

They ought to just make you an Admin for all the repeats you report.

Thanks.

I'm sure this is a repeat, but if it is, I can't find it.

I think that sounds extremely cool, and at some points almost oddly soothing. Not creepy.

But I'm weird, so what do I know. Heh.

So, on 14 Dec we're posting a 29 Jun article about a 1 Feb YouTube upload.

Way to stay relevant, Fark.

they couldn't break 36kbps?
shiatty hardware is shiatty

the real fun comes when you down-shift a 52k connection and spread the spectrum across human hearing range from 30 to 18k

Sounds like a song from the old Ghost in the Shell: Standalone Complex soundtrack.

If Slenderman makes a sound, this has to be it.

Feels a lot like Ravine.

Sounds like just about anything by Godspeed You Black Emperor. I like.

How does one slow something down 700%? After it's slowed down 100%, doesn't it stop playing?

2011-12-14 08:10:10 AM
what's a dial-up modem?

/kidding
//but my 1-year-old daughter will probably never hear one... unless she happens by a fax machine in the next few years before they stop being used completely.

2011-12-14 08:22:09 AM
doesn't sound right. I remember playing with reel to reels and got a feel for what something sounds like at half speed, this aint it.

more like they took the frequency, kept it the same, and just lengthened their samples making it sound like it was slowed down. even then it only sound like 30% of normal speed

at 700% you should be able to hear the ones and zeros, anyone wanna do the math?

2011-12-14 08:27:19 AM
Sounds like V'ger

Wouldn't slowing something down by 100% completely stop it? How do you slow something by 700%?

2011-12-14 08:50:58 AM
It sounds relaxing. Reminds me somewhat of the end of 'I am sitting in a room'

2011-12-14 09:07:25 AM
Horror? Sounds to me like most of the sound affects from Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

Mostly the transporter, then the end kinda sounds like the trippy V'ger sounds.

Otto's_Jacket: Sounds like Brian Eno and Trent Reznor in the studio together after a few shots of absinthe.

Ha! That's awesome, that's exactly it! I actually thought it was kind of beautiful in a lugubrious sort of way. I always loved the musical quality of the dialing and connection tones.

2011-12-14 09:14:11 AM
This also would have fit nicely in between any two tracks on OK Computer.

Time/math does not work that way.

Sounds like parts of the Dune soundtrack.
I mean the original movie.

I am totally going to make a song with this sample.

poonesfarm: Pretty cool. I could probably fall asleep to that and have some really farked up dreams.

Yeah, it's nice and ambient right now when I'm at work, if I turned it on while going to bed at night my ability to go to sleep would be slightly ruined. Thanks over-active imagination.

/Definitely sounds neat though.
