SoCalSurfer: "he will come off badly compared to Obama and look like nothing more than what he is: a fat, old, white man."

That is kind of unfair. He's so much more than just a fat, old white man: he's also a great example of an amoral hypocrite.

make me some tea: It's Michael Savage, do you think he gives a shiat about nonsense like legalities?

It'll probably end up like when Colbert did that thing with Doritos. A letter telling them to knock it off, and that's about it. If he's serious though...

It would be interesting to see a politician's exact price

FoxNews offers $2 million+ analyst contracts. But honestly, I think Newt really believes he's gonna win this.

2011-12-13 09:45:59 PM
He'll make 100 times that by staying in the race.

2011-12-13 09:49:40 PM
Savage is an asshole. But if it gets Newt out of the campaign..that would be hilarious. But Gingrich is the only one outside of Ron Paul who'd be able to hold their own against Obama in a debate.

I doubt Newt will take this, though. He's already pretty wealthy...and he wants that presidency.

If this works, perhaps we could pay each of the remaining Republicans a million each to drop out. Compared to the damage that any one of them would do if elected, it would be damn cheap.

Yeah, why not make some money instead of spending money in this economy? Then four years from now, you can take your shot and maybe the economy will be better and people will be ready to stop voting for Democrats.

Wait a minute...I don't think I've thought his cunning plan all the way through.

Interestingly, we haven't had a bachelor president since Buchanan in 1857. I wonder what would happen if one was elected today? (I know it'll never happen, too many people vote for "family values", whatever that means these days)

I used to try to pin Savage on the right wing, but the truth is he's merely unhinged. He used to be part of the 1960s psychedelic movement and took his PhD at UC Berkeley in nutritional ethnomedicine. In the 80s his conservative beliefs emerged and didn't stop until he was clear out of his farking gourd.

He's barely human.

Savage? O, jeez. That nutjob is one of the most spastic, hateful, ugly, bigoted, nasty wastes of flesh in existence. He makes Rush Limbaugh look like Captain Kangaroo by comparison. I used to listen to his show on the way to work, just to see how far into the depths of depraved hatred and paranoia one human could sink to. One of the craziest things I ever heard was his 9/11 meltdown. We were all upset at the time, but he took it to levels of insanity I could never have imagined. There's a reason why he keeps his address and broadcasting location secret, and travels with bodyguards.

Still lulzy.

That's funny. Let me guess: He's getting his listeners to send him money because of this? Well, there's one borne every minute.

culebra: Just checked the Intrade and Newt's plummeting. I don't think he's managed to seduce Joe and Joan six-pack.

Actually he was polling over 40% today which is the highest of anyone so far in the Primary, so he's still got momentum and it's picking up. Paul, however has closed the distance with him and is trailing in Iowa by less than the margin of error. Granted, he still polls 11 points below Obama, but it's still a little too early for non political wonks to be paying attention.

Notabunny: But for Republicans, it's always party before country

You do understand that they are one in the same for Republicans right? That's why they're not Democrats. (i.e. They believe Obama is making those things worse and therefore beating Obama would invariably make them better).

Isn't that like the first thing on the entry requirements for US politics? I mean, Obama's one of our better statesmen and that still pretty much describes him too.

//He wins because he's an adult amoral hypocrite where everyone else in Washington is more like a two-year-old amoral hypocrite, just doing it because making trouble garners attention without any actual attempt to predict of control the outcome or serve any cause.

The [Republican] aide said that guys like me were ''in what we call the reality-based community,'' which he defined as people who ''believe that solutions emerge from your judicious study of discernible reality.'' I nodded and murmured something about enlightenment principles and empiricism. He cut me off. ''That's not the way the world really works anymore,'' he continued. ''We're an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you're studying that reality -- judiciously, as you will -- we'll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that's how things will sort out. We're history's actors . . . and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do.'' (new window)

You fault Newt for thinking the rules don't apply to him? You're dealing with a party that thinks reality doesn't apply to them.

Michael "Savage" Weiner is a fascinating example of how repression can lead to some fairly frightening outcomes.

We all know the guy is hanging on to his own sanity by the slimmest of threads, but the question is why? Well, the answer lies in his own checkered history. Some of you probably know about his time spent in the 60s countercultural movement, but what you may not know is that he had a personal relationship with Allen Ginsburg. He even sent sexually charged letters to Ginsburg.

Then there's the novel "Vital Signs" that he wrote in the 80s whose main character is a repressed homosexual with a life history identical to Savage's.

This is all pretty well documented by several people including Cenk from TYT.

If you take a purely objective look at Savage, you'll see a portrait of a grotesquely isolated person who would deserve your pity if he weren't broadcasting his special brand of sickness over the airwaves.

Since when is it the job of politicians to do anything besides get (re-)elected? Every Congress-critter views every single issue, bill, and scrap of news through the lens of "How does this benefit me personally?" Why pass bills and try to fix the country when you can get re-elected with grandstanding, lip-service, and platitudes?

So what happens when Newt dives in the polls, Romney takes charge again, and realizing that he's just another flavor-of-the-week, decides to "quit" the race? Does he still get the money?
