(Uproxx) Cool If you're having a bad day and this video of dogs hanging out of car windows doesn't brighten it, then you should probably go find a urinal to drown yourself in immediately   (uproxx.com) divider line 43

My new rescue puppy approves. Her brother approves, too.

Because it came to mind...

Here they come
The dogs in the bright white sports car
Waving their paws in the air
Who do they think they are?
And where did they get that car?

Yeah. I was expecting to see ears and jowls flapping in the wind.
Booooring.

A little overblown.

After my brother's dog unexpectedly leapt out of his truck while it was motion and fell under the back wheels, I keep my dog strapped in and away from the window.

/She can get the tip of her nose out the window, that's about it.

gopher321: Meh x2.

Yeah, a bunch of dogs looking mildly amused in slow motion. My day is roughly where it was five minutes ago. I... guess... I'm supposed to go kill myself or something?

Good.

Also remember. Dogs make lousy airbags.

Yep, she's in the back.

Drives me nuts when I see people driving around with unrestrained dogs in their open truckbeds.

I remember my Lab Lucy going berserk if I put shoes on, knowing it was a chance to go car car bye bye. Head out, cheeks flapping in the breeze, slobbering all over the side of the car and barking at anyone she saw whether we were doing 60 or standing still.

She took her final trip to the vet with the window open. She was to be put down due to Anaplastic Carcinoma.

Barely able to climb stairs my wife told me she stood with her paws on the armrest, woo-wooed at a horse in a pasture near a stop light. The horse bolted. Lucy looked back for approval from her master.

She got it :)

That video made my day.

The linked video is pretty boring, but I thought the "first time stepping on grass" one was pretty cool.

Nope, I can still hear the crappy music no matter how many times I flush this urinal.

That is why I ride a motorcycle. There is something very calming about having the wind in your face and no destination.

See, now, why can't my dog do that like a normal creature? Instead, as soon as I open the driver's door to get in, she starts to bark and bark and bark and bark and bark and bark and bark and bark and run back and forth across the back seat barking and yelping at everything that passes by at a deafening volume.

I don't know if my day will be brighter. The darn thing's still loading.

What kind of film is it that they use to make life look better than life like this? Or it it some kind of post production thing that make nature's colors more vivid than they actually are?

/Obviously I don't know anything about anything

Nope. Still depressed. FML and whatnot

Interesting. Since dogs perceive their world in terms of smells, maybe sticking their head out of a moving car produces the same effect to them as watching a stop-action movie.

Liked the film, though, and I'm much more of a cat person.

More like a Micheal Bay movie. It's an assault on their senses...

csb

Last Saturday, a friend of mine had his 2 dogs (Sisters. Lab/ Weimaraner) in the back of his Jeep Cherokee.
Upon seeing a squirrel, they started jockeying for the best window, when one of them managed to pull the pin, and discharge a dry chemical fire extinguisher directly into the back of his head. White shiat everywhere. Hilarity, and 2 days of clean up ensued.

Sadly, no video exists.

I have a friend whose dog was brained when a big rig kicked up a rock. After hearing that, I'm never letting any dog I own to put his/her head out the window again.

had the volume down and U2's Magnificent came on the Itunes, it worked better as a soundtrack

The dogs I had a few years back rode in the back of my truck, I had a shell put on it so they could have the whole bed. There was an old piece of carpet and a huge foam bed for 'em. They had a sweet set up back there. They were also both big enough that they could hop in and out until they started getting too old.

The shell was the kind where the back windows slid forward and had screens to keep them in. So they got plenty of air to sniff but I didn't have to worry about them getting beaned or falling out. They've been gone awhile, and the new pup has been riding in the cab so far unless he's wet or muddy . . . wife likes having him up there. But unless she's going to start cleaning up nose prints and hair he's going to be relegated to the back pretty soon.

Now, see...this one picture was way better than that whole slow-motion snore fest we just watched. Good job.

The maker of the video was trying way too hard to make an emotional video. Should have been full speed, no music, and the dogs having a blast.

Years ago I had to work in a vet clinic as part of my job working at the help desk for a national vet hospital. Someone had brought in a black lab that was in traveling in the back of a pickup and had fallen over the side.
The owner had him tied in, but the leash was too long and at some point the dog either fell or jumped over the side of the truck and was dragged along the side before another driver got him to stop. His hips were broken and most of his skin was scrapped off his legs. The vet was surprised he was alive. He looked like hell and was howling in pain until the vet got some painkiller in him. He survived after surgery and about a week in the clinic.

The image of that dog is burned into my mind, If anyone out there let's their dog ride in the open bed of a pickup, please make sure the leash is too short for them to fall over the side. I would never want another dog to ever go through that agony.

Oh Jimmy Stewart makes me bawl my eyes out every time. My dog is a complete and total butthole, but it was nice to not come home to an empty house when my husband was deployed and I love her for it.
When we first got her we had the window rolled down and she tried to jump out of it. Now the window stays up and she stays in the back.
80 lbs of butthole, I tell ya.
