And this is why modern conservatives are not taken seriously.

That's some expensive derp.

This year the GOP-led South Dakota legislature passed a law requiring women seeking abortions to face a three-day waiting period - the nation's longest - and undergo counseling at pregnancy "help centers" that discourage abortion.

they should then pass a law that requires anyone seeking lasik eye surgery to face a three day waiting period AND undergo counseling at a 'help center' that discourages eye surgery. it would make about as much sense.

Or, you could just, you know, stop oppressing women and try to pass legal laws.

GAT_00: Or, you could just, you know, stop oppressing women and try to pass legal laws.

it's the duty of every small government Republican to pass expensive and invasive laws of questionable legality in order to build a safe and secure society where everyone is free to do exactly as they please, just so long as they're a white heterosexual male who believes in Jesus and doesn't question his leaders or complain about not having a job.

Code_Archeologist: And this is why modern conservatives are not taken seriously.

But it's not odd at all, once you realize that the GOP is not now, and never has been (at least not since the 1970s) concerned about the deficit. All the fiscal posturing of the last couple of years has been about using the deficit as a club to smash the welfare state, with the secondary goal of frustrating any efforts on the part of the Obama administration to help the struggling economy.

The entire debate has been fake. If you don't understand that, or can't bring yourself to admit it, you're missing the whole story.

I need to get this done, but I've been putting off researching it and determining where to get the best price, the best doctor, etc etc. I just signed up to put a hefty chunk in my HSA every month, so I'll need to do it this year, or I lose that money- sort of a way to force myself to get off my ass and get this operation taken care off.

Now, I just need to get pregnant...

You rang?

Lasik is one of those things I just don't see a point in doing, because I've asked and the procedure needs repeated every decade or so. My eyes are still getting worse every exam, so I see no reason to spend the money when I'll just end up back in glasses.

That and I can't make myself trust have a farking laser shot in my eye.

I had it done 10 years ago, and I've had no loss of vision. The only downside is finding out really how dirty your shower is.

djkutch: I had it done 10 years ago, and I've had no loss of vision.

Maybe it's more my case, as I don't see why it would stop the slow degradation of my vision. Or it could be the eye doctor just wants me to keep buying glasses. Meh. At any rate, not fond of it.

I dunno man, everyone I've talked to- including doctors- say I will have my long distance vision permanently fixed. I may need reading glasses as I get older, but I would have needed those anyway.

The amount I spend on contacts, contact solution, glasses etc etc? It pays for itself.

As states are facing their worst budget crunches since the Great Depression, Republican-led governments have insisted on pushing conservative social agendas instead of focusing on pressing economic needs. In fact, they've exacerbated state budget deficits by passing anti-abortion laws that can cost millions for the state to defend but are rarely upheld in court. Kansas, for instance, has spent $2,180 of taxpayers money every day defending its anti-abortion laws.

Just look at those jobs the GOP has created...

Maybe it's because my vision is so bad, but I've never understood reading glasses. Can't see? Then wear your glasses all the time. How is it that you can't wear them all the time and get ones actually set to match you vision?

I always wear mine, but things start getting blurry about a foot from my face.

Your penis cannot go into that vagina that you are not married to.

My democratically elected penis has free reign over any vagina or male anus that it desires.

//basically the same thing (the concept, not vagina / male anus)

Retarded. Not only should abortions be available to whoever wants one, but in the case of welfare recipients they should be free. Hell, we ought to pay them for having abortions.

this could lead to an interesting cottage industry. would be interesting to see how many abortions you could get in a fiscal year and still qualify for welfare, therefore still qualify for the program.

No, I'm exceptionally nearsighted. I just don't see why you'd only want better vision while reading. My vision is somewhere around 20/300 or so.

In one of the states with a high percentage of poor unwed mothers on public assistance (I think it was in the South but obviously not Mississippi or Alabama), there was a bill to have the state pay for the woman to get her tubes tied. Not sure where that ended up, but that was another fine idea.

Don't know if you are being serious or not but I've always thought that government should be subsidizing birth control and abortions, especially in the schools.

So let me get this straight...

Gun waiting lists being 5 days is ok, but waiting 3 days to see if someone changes their mind about aborting a baby isn't?

/Not that I am in favor of the law, I am just against hypocrisy and double standards. Consistency is the key to having a common sense efficient civilization.

At least at the center where I got my LASIK (a little over a month ago), they would have told you that you were not a candidate since your eyes have been getting worse every year. Also, many centers give people Valium before their surgery to calm their nerves and make them more steady for the surgery.

/I definitely needed the Valium
