That's probably a bargain. Either pay a couple grand to remove the "fark you" from some dipshiat's neck, or pay for his welfare the rest of his stupid life when he can't get anyone to hire his dumb ass.

$75,000 a year for tattoo removals.

The horror.

Ah, another Taxpayers Alliance press release turned into 'news'.

Yeah, why can't we get the promised death panels to deal with these people?

A tattoo is the mark of the lower class. You can burn it off with a laser beam, but you're still low class.

What a childish argument.

Claiming the invalidity of a program over a small and sensational flaw is like saying you don't want a free car because there is a small scratch on a door.

New Welfare Program:

Put everyone eligible for welfare on a website with a photo of themselves and a short bio. Everyone can come to the website and vote whether or not they get to recieve public funds. Majority rules.

/similar to hot or not, but with welfare

Totally true. It totally wouldn't be worth the hundreds or thousands of people who die at home because they can't afford to go see a doctor when they are sick.

What about removing stupid tattoos from ugly people?

Hmmm...

I'm trying to figure out where this is coming from. Do people think that "socialized medicine" covers any and all medical procedures that anyone wants?

I live in Canada, and I can't just waltz into a plastic surgeon's off ice, have him enlarge my dong and implant my love handles into my scrotum, charge the whole thing to the taxpayer, then enjoy a successful porn career as Johnny Gigantiwang.

So the NHS in Britain covers tattoo removal? Who gives a shiat? The amount of money is trifling, it's not a necessary component of any single-payer system, and the article talks about how members of their Parliament are trying to get rid of it.

If you've got to reach this far to attack "socialized medicine", your argument is looking pretty weak.

Nice of them to include that little afterthought at the end of the story:

FORTY per cent of attempts to administer drugs to hospital patients are bungled, research reveals. Mistakes include giving pills at the wrong time, incorrect doses, crushing tablets and not cleaning out tubes.

2011-12-13 01:54:59 PM
That doesn't really fall under any definition of "medicine" I'm aware of.

They can cover that stuff when billions a year is not going to a profit margin.

Conservative Mindset: Somebody, somewhere is getting something I think they don't deserve from the government. I can't prove it, and my attempts in the past have been laughable failures, but it still compels me to attempt to get rid of all government other than military spending. It doesn't matter what other good things come along with the package it all has to go because I can't stand it.

Something like that anyway.

It'll never happen over here. The insurance companies that will run government medicine will find a way to get out of it. Sure we'll still pay for it, but no one will get their tattoos removed.

That's also the bulk of counter-arguments they have to solving problems.

'If this doesn't solve our issues perfectly 100% on the first try, its not worth doing at all!'

The median CEO pay in the [US health care insurance] industry was $10 million. times 456 companies in the study . . . . $4.5 billion per year in pay for people that could be easily replaced with bags of moldy moss.

Yeah, the Brits are doing it wrong, sure.

Universal coverage is less expensive as overall % GDP than the current, for-profit system. Does anyone disagree with this? Why is this so much more offensive than "socialized" firemen, police, and military? Next time you have a stroke,

2011-12-13 02:10:29 PM
£200k in four years? THE OUTRAGE. That's, like, £50k a year.

And the NHS has a budget of £106 billion.
That comes to ~0.0000005% of possibly wasteful spending.

HEADS MUST ROLL FOR THIS
AMERICAN HEALTHCARE IS MUCH BETTER

Riotcow: Universal coverage is less expensive as overall % GDP than the current, for-profit system.

The current for-profit system isn't going away because of health care "reform." The only real difference under the new system is mandated profit.

'Socialized medicine' doesn't have to cover all procedures you know. You can make rules, this isn't 'Nam.

It also fits well into a news cycle - even if a program is outrageously successful there are always going to be a few mistakes or problems, and then any parts of the press opposed to the program will concentrate on those. Its like how crime has fallen fairly consistently over the last 20 years or so in the UK but 60-70% of people think it has risen due to the selectivity of news sources - if overall crime is up one year they report that, if the next year it is down they report that say murders are up, and if both overall crime and murders are down they will pick up that burglaries are up, etc.

Does it add up more or less than the costs of people who are unemployable or only employable at the margins because of their stupid tattoos?

Welfare doesn't work that way.

Let him get a shiatty job in a kitchen to save up for getting those tats removed.
