How old are you? 'Long' is an age-old synonym of tall, especially for people with, er, legs whose greatest metric dimension exceeds societal averages. 'Long' doesn't have to refer to horizontal. If you hang a rope up, do you suddenly start talking about how 'tall' it is instead of how 'long' it was on the floor? 'Tall' is a *kind* of 'long': Basketball players are tall because they are long. Sheesh. Kids these days.

A player being referenced as "long" really has nothing to do with them being tall. It actually has more to do with them having a long wingspan, hence why they say long.
