How long before Mr. Romney's head assplodes?

Good job by that vet. Again, the average citizen is asking tougher questions than the entire media world.

What I'd like to believe, is that the end result of that little confrontation is that the Grinch's heart grew three sizes that day, but I know that won't be the case.

Ouch. Romney thought he picked an easy mark, pointing out a hat and sitting down with them. I wonder if the campaign will be a little more gun shy in the future, having aides feel out people ahead of time. Too bad that shiat does not fly in Republican primary states, though.

Mitt Romney is a soulless, empty suit that believes in nothing.

Good job openly saying you're denying someone their Constitutional rights.

"I support the repeal of the New Hampshire law," Romney responded. "I believe marriage is between a man and a woman. That's my view."

"It's good to know how you feel, that you do not believe everyone is entitled to their constitutional rights," Garon shot back.

"No, actually, I think at the time the Constitution was written it was pretty clear that marriage is between a man and a woman," Romney replied.

To be fair, I don't think any of Romney's supporters would be swayed to vote against him for that little exchange.

No, see, he's a constitutional originalist. They believe every popular opinion of the day, around the time of the founding fathers, should be law now and forever.

Cubansaltyballs: Mitt Romney is a soulless, empty suit that believes in nothing.

Politically, this is correct. Religiously, he's very money. I doubt he wears the funny undies of his professed religion, but I know he worships at the altar of the almighty dollar.

So why isn't Romney calling for slavery?

2011-12-12 04:49:35 PM
Um... Mr. Romney? The Constitution mentions slavery, right? But we did this marvelous thing and amended the Constitution. See.... the Constitution was designed as a living document, meant to be changed as the population finds it necessary. Your stance is completely in error and demonstrates that once again you and your party are on the wrong side of history.

Because he doesn't know jack shiat about the constitution, and is looking for any cheap excuse to pin up his opinions as something other than the religion claptrap they are. But you knew that.

So this guy lied about his homosexuality so that he could be eligible to fight in a completely useless war. Now you can argue his judgement in choosing to fight in that bullshiat war but speaking as someone who would seriously consider smoking pole to get out of Viet Nam if I was of drafting age, go fark yourself, Romney.

He's right, biblical woman-plus-property marriage fell out of favor once that property became "icky".

You're aware a lot of gay men are just regular men who don't bone women, right? Stock brokers, psychologists, engineers, cooks, hourly wage-slaves. Normal guys.

I mean, there's the whole tailpipe thing, but other than that, normal guys.

From TFA: "Both Romney and Texas Governor Rick Perry had, at one point or another, said that same-sex marriage was a state issue, before announcing their support for a constitutional amendment banning such unions."

Now that THEY are running for president, it's not flip-flopping... it's pandering.
It's only flip-flopping if the opponent does it.

its also possible he hadn't realized he was gay at 18, or it is also possible, he wasn't. It isn't uncommon for people to change sides, or even change back.

So can Romney court more votes across the country by trying to appease the guy in the diner or by saying "marriage is between a man and a woman"? This is not a trick question. Remember that every time gay marriage has been put to a vote in any state it has lost.

2011-12-12 05:30:38 PM
And, of course, Obama also has opposed gay marriage. He has hemmed and hawed about how he has thought about it a lot, but he's not coming out for it.

Just like desegregation did in the South during the 60s.
Sometimes we can't rely on the opinions of the majority when it comes to civil rights.

Sometimes the majority choose to be bigots and want to impinge on the rights of the minority. Like Romney is talking about doing.

Or, you know... he could just have some core convictions that he stands by.

Ron Paul is crazier than a sh*thouse rat, but he has convictions and he stands by them. I don't agree with the vast majority of them, but I do respect Paul for having conviction. Romney's the kind of guy that only believes what is most politically expedient to believe at that moment.

Obama is wrong, he should be pro-marriage rights for all Americans.

Either that, or get the state out of the marriage business altogether. Either recognize every marriage, or none at all.

Hey man, it's tradition. That means when you support it, you're not a bigot... you're just a traditionalist.

ALBANY - Lawmakers voted late Friday to legalize same-sex marriage, making New York the largest state where gay and lesbian couples will be able to wed and giving the national gay-rights movement new momentum from the state where it was born.

Public opinion is at the moment for gay marriage, not against it. The 'put to a vote' thing is a canard. It didn't go to a vote in any number of states where gay marriage is now legal. And it probably isn't ever going to go to a vote in those states, because people in those states support it.

Relatively Obscure: ALBANY - Lawmakers voted late Friday to legalize same-sex marriage, making New York the largest state where gay and lesbian couples will be able to wed and giving the national gay-rights movement new momentum from the state where it was born.

If it wasn't put up to a general referendum, then gay marriage opponents can pretend that the people didn't approve of it.

/But seriously. . . why the eff do these people care so much about what other consenting adults are doing?

I will never, never figure this out. If my marriage isn't cheapened by quickie marriages and multiple-divorcees, then my marriage is not cheapened by people who love each other receiving equal protections by the government.

RichieLaw: Can someone please tell me why someone who is not gay cares if gays can marry? Somebody? Anybody?

I'm against the tax breaks associated with marriage. I'd rather not see anybody treated differently as a result of their relationship status, so to an extent I'm against extending unwarranted benefits to even more people. Also get a little upset when people disingenuously call it an "equal rights" issue, like the guy in the article. If you really cared about equal rights, you would be for giving those rights to everybody, including people who choose to stay single.

Remember that Obama doesn't support gay marriage. Neither does the majority of Dems in the House or Senate. Remember when Obama was in the WH and the Dems controlled both houses of congress?

I see your point, but it's worth noting that the keyword there is choose. What makes this especially egregious is that a common choice given to everyone is denied to a minority few. You aren't born "single" --

Wait.

You aren't genetically predisposed to being "single" --

Damn.

You know what I'm saying.
