"a nuclear blast high above the United States that would instantly throw the nation into a dark age."

so it basically has the same effect as the GOP platform?

Well, he wouldn't be a Republican without the pants-pissing fear, now would he?

Reagan put a few hammers into the SDI wonder, and now Gingrich wants to hurry production?

Given that plenty of Northerners wouldn't mind nuking his home state for taking entire companies out of it, I'm sure he's worried about that threat. He's just wrong about who wants to carry it out more.

/Wouldn't miss Atlanta
//Or nearby Duluth

Nuclear war? Really? REALLY?

Dear GOP/Princess Celestia/whoever,
This is not the 50s. Stop trying to make it the 1950s. Or in some cases, the 1850s. You do not understand foreign policy, threats to our nation or anything about being good, decent human beings. Please stop trying, because no one gives a shiat about you.

Your friendly neighborhood rabbit,

Subby is advocating that Newt will entice the 101st to drop a nuke on the US? Far fetched even for the GOP, but possible I guess as a quick way to get to where they want to take the country.

thamike: Unfortunately for Gingrich, Johnson had to hire a little girl to pretend she was completely brick-stupid, he didn't actually not know how to count to four.

He just has his think tank count to four for him. Then carry on about bringing back slavery.

As long as Newt's within a mile of ground zero, I just ask that the nuke take out the northern half of Georgia.

I see Newt finally got around to playing Modern Warfare 2. Good job.

A CN joke? In MY Fark?

Doomsday fearmongering gives me flashbacks to the summer of '98 when my roommate's car broke down on vacation and we were stuck in rural eastern Washington for 4 days among people who were frantically amassing guns and food in preparation for Y2K. There are people who take this stuff very, very seriously, and they scare me a helluva lot more than whatever hypothetical disaster they're always preparing for.

2011-12-12 05:41:59 PM
So we nuke them before they nuke us?

/He has the joos' vote for claiming Palenstine does not exist.

///Whats next? Cats and Dogs mating, producing the cat/dog hybrid, in order to destroy the taste of Chinese food?

Is he still babbling about sex in space. You know your life's work sucks when even your mentor Alvin Toffler says "You are obviously better at shaking hands than writing fiction."

ecmoRandomNumbers: His doomsday fantasies should frighten the shiat out of people.

Yup.

Apparently Newts a big scifi fan... and somehow totally missed the point / underlying message of most of scifi. Mental illness and warped ideology will do that.

I've been meaning to make a tube-based radio. Thanks for the reminder, subby.

/What nuclear superpower is in a position to fire a damn nuke? Cold War is over, gramps.

Would be funny if there were three Newt Gingrich links in a row under the Politics tab.

/currently a huge war going on
//Fark's alliance is getting the shiat kicked out of it, sadly

Hm? It's a Civ joke. You'll find them every damn day on Fark.

Nobody is shooting a nuke at us, ever, for any reason.

If only there was a word for a group deliberately spreading fear (or 'terror', if you will) for political gain...

Didn't Newt write the foreword to 'One Second After'?

[goes and checks] Yes, he did.

Google "Report of the Commission to Assess the Threat to the United States from Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) Attack" for the government report that the fictional book was prompted by, if you're curious.

2011-12-12 06:12:46 PM
No big deal if some rogue state or terrorist group ignites an EMP weapon. Life will go on.

Now if one of these (new window) happens in our own galaxy aimed at Earth, there's nothing the US or anyone in the world can do to stop it.

Newt has been talking about EMP for years. Guess the Star Tribune is late to the Hate Train.

I'm concerned terrorists will develop a weapon that creates a black hole, give me money to help stop them.

/foolproofplan

2011-12-12 06:23:08 PM
Here's an idea. How about instead of derping it up about an EMP attack, you explain how you would protect the US grid against a geomagnetic storm?

Bonus: hardening the system against geomagnetic disturbances will also help against an EMP attack.

2011-12-12 06:32:58 PM
The Tea Party crazies in the Montana legislature tried to legalize big game hunting with spears last legislative session. Now I know why.

2011-12-12 06:34:53 PM
So the solution is GOVERNMENT SPENDING?

I thought government was never the solution!!

I am so confused! What let me read my how to be a conservative notes here on what to do...

When cognitive dissonance is about to happen scream GOP talking points until they go away.

OBAMA IS A SOCIALIST!!!

2011-12-12 06:37:07 PM
The idea is that if a nuclear weapon, lofted by a missile, were detonated in outer space high above the U.S. heartland, it would set off a huge and crippling shock wave of electricity.

No one told Newt to update his 1980's Soviet Union fear mongering notes to 2000's Terrorist fear mongering notes?
