Short article - don't buy a house located on a former military base, half of them could qualify as superfund sites.

From the other side of her coffee table, her husband, Buff, quips, "Don't you recognize your own back yard?"

What, were Chaz, Poppy, and Dash too busy waxing the Bimmer before their trip to the Hamptons?

The original labs at Wally Reed had floors with 1/8" gaps so any spilled 'whatever' could be brushed to the ground beneath them.

/was with the company that did site remediation there

Over the past two decades, the Army Corps of Engineers has excavated pockets of their wealthy, tree-lined neighborhood, which was built over the Army's World War I chemical warfare testing grounds, to analyze possible contamination.

We hold these truths to be self evident.

I believe you are seriously underestimating chemical warfare's sneakiness.

If residents of Washington, D.C., were warped/mutated/poisoned by toxic chemicals how would the rest of us know the difference?

Spring Valley is a beautiful neighborhood in DC... I hope the price drops enough for me to be able to afford it

I was once a resident of a US Army chemical warfare testing range, but then I took an arrow to the knee.

Down at the arsenal they keep the nerve gasses
Guarded day and night by caged white rabbits
Been sitting there for years
I'm gonna have at it
I cut through the fence, run right in and grab it
Go crazy crazy crazy crazy:

Now I got my own mustard gas in my pocket
Climb on a tree on a branch and drop it
On a country club full of Saturday golfers
So I can watch them die chokin' shakin' in convulsions
Go crazy crazy crazy crazy
Crazy crazy crazy crazy:

Chemical Warfare Chemical Warfare
Chemical Warfare Warfare Warfare

Panic in the air
See the headless chickens runnin'
Golf carts head on crashin'
Crackin' heads wide open
Scratch the grass, mister, you can't breathe
And roll and writhe in a sand trap
Starting to heave
Claw those clubs, lemme see you seethe
Crazy Crazy Crazy Crazy Crazy Crazy

Chemical Warfare Chemical Warfare
Chemical Warfare Warfare Warfare

Yellow air
Yellow clouds
Blowin' down down down the fairway
Sensitive to the touch
Mowin' down- down the putting green
Heading straight for the big clubhouse
Where the stuffed country club
Effervescent ladies, so carefree
Relax, pose by the pool
Limber limp with a dry martini
Until...

Chemical Warfare Chemical Warfare
Chemical Warfare Warfare Warfare

But compared with the demographically similar Chevy Chase community,

It is fun living there for about the first 15 minutes, then it is repetitive and annoying. Vacations are great though.

/oddly enough Community is, in my opinion, some of his funniest work

Of course, the guy who seems to be sure he's suffering from arsenic poisoning doesn't have any actual tests that show arsenic in his system. Yes, it's really easy to detect, and if he doesn't have any in his system, it's certain that his feet aren't turning black from arsenic exposure.

For that matter, pretty much anything involved in WWI-era chemical warfare would be either inert by now (traces of mustard gas, for example) - or easily detected (arsenic and mercury compounds).

There are few times when Farkers embarrass me. This is one of them.God forbid any of you ever have to live through something of this nature. I hope you never have to answer the phone and hear your inconsolably weeping wife on the other end of the line as she mutters the only words she is able to muster "he has black feet".

If you can afford the house, you can afford the disease. Enjoy it, the rest of us could never afford such an elite disease as blackfoot, we'll just have to deal with mundane diseases asthma and cholera.

I see no problem with black feet...

2011-12-12 02:04:30 PM
I thought feet turning black was a side effect of diabetes - which the guy has been diagnosed with.

Dude must have some pretty stupid doctors if they're baffled by the black feet thing.

CSB:

So i was working on the floor in a chemical plant when i got (mild) acid burns on my feet.

I took off my boots back in the shop and my feet were red.

"Now what do i do?" i asked my foreman.

And my foreman, without missing a beat says: "You put your hands together tonight and pray: 'Now i lay me down to sleep/i pray dear lord i keep my feet.'"

Dow Jones and the Temple of Doom: These are the 1%

They are getting studies and clean-up paid for by the government (regular tax payers), so maybe they oughta take their bank with them to a new residence downtown, nearer their buddies.

Having grown up in Spring Valley in the 1970's, and dug in the dirt, walked around in bare feet, went through the woods for hours off of Dalecarlia, went at least a 1,000 times through the Fordham-49th storm drainage, I never saw or heard anything. My siblings agree to this day. Their kids still play in the area.

Now some jackarse on Tilden/Rockwood pkwy has a new bamboo yard thanks to tax dollars.

/live way out west now, 'rents still in home from '60.

Yeah for a long time you couldnt use the softball fields at AU because of the large pits the army corps of engineers dug there to get all the old rotten chemical weapons out

There are military bases that have similar problems. Their solution was to build housing on it. Two I know off the top of my head, Jackson Park, in Bremerton, WA, and Ord Military Community, previously Fort Ord, in California. It's creepy.

They haven't found anything yet, and until they do, this is just paranoia. Not all - or even most - former Army sites are contaminated. I hope they're paying for the tests with their own money.

My spouse worked on remediation for this site when he was Army. They wore full protective suits with respirators and had a full decon line set up for the end of the day. Nasty Nasty stuff they found there in people's back yards.
