A Hale-Bopp reference? How timely.

Save a spot for me in the unemployment line?

Seriously. You have to wonder how many people will actually get that, or would have if nobody pointed out that it was a reference.

Haley appeared angry when asked by a reporter about his firing, saying "Comet me, bro!"

Hear that sound, Haley? It's 5-Chan Gailey laughing hysterically from Ralph Wilson's hospice.

/Biggest disappointment on this? Give Rex Ryan a toehold on returning next year.

Reminds me of Jay Leno doing OJ Simpson/Monica Lewinski jokes several years after their respective stories were out of the headlines.

Sparano is out at the Dolphins too....Link (new window)

Haley was a "WTF?" hire from the beginning, I thought...

He didn't drink the Kool-Aid.

2011-12-12 04:45:22 PM
Dude lost his starting QB (Cassel), RB (Charles), TE (Moeaki) and Safety (Berry) for the year. How much blame can be on the coach that they are underperforming? But it's no secret that he is a megadouchedick, so that probably didn't help his cause.

tallguywithglasseson: A Hale-Bopp reference? How timely.

Especially for someone who coached in the AFC West. I'm surprised he didn't commit hyakutake. You might even say he should start Ikeya-Seking a job. Maybe one where he'll have Priest Holmes and David Garradd on his team. Of course, that might require LINEAR thinking.

2011-12-12 04:49:41 PM
Sparano too. Black Monday comes early in the NFL this year.

2011-12-12 04:49:48 PM
Great. I can't wait to relive the past 2.5 seasons again with the inevitable hiring of Josh McDaniels.

Seriously, Bill Cowher has kids, right? Couple weeks of observation we could have their schedules, quick snatch-and-grab and hole up in some backwater shack in Ozarks or western Kansas for a few weeks, a few anonymous letters to the right people...A team of 4, maybe 5 dedicated Chiefs fans could make this happen.

2011-12-12 04:50:08 PM
Gotta question the timing of the Sparano firing

2011-12-12 04:50:15 PM
Haley also drew his own 15 yard penalty yesterday. It isn't every day that non-players get penalized.

Also, the officiating sucked in that game, but the Chiefs wouldn't have won either way.

Cowher has already coached in KC. Back in the 90s when Schottenheimer became head coach, and the huge number of Steelers fans in KC would love to have him here.

They wanted to whack him after a loss, and Dallas didn't count because it was a holiday.

Way to fire the guy that coached you to the top spot in the AFC west last year guys.

This year, they've lost two games by a point and two games by a field goal. They could be 8-5 instead of 4-9 in the same division as New England and the Jets, all on a little bit of bad luck. That after being 7-9 the last two years and winning the division in his first year, with a bunch of joke QBs and a ton of questionable personnel moves.

All I'm saying is, to put all the blame on the man in the sunglasses is nowhere near fair.

So odds of Haley ending up with the Jagwaggers?

2011-12-12 05:14:08 PM
Haley's coaching was a significant hindrance to the Chefs. You might say they constantly played like the away team, even at home.

McDaniels might be fine if you don't do something silly like, say, making the young guy with no experience hold your GM power and so on.

/Although Hillis IS flaming out in Cleveland...
//And Tebow is leading the Broncos to wins...

Cagey B: Haley's coaching was a significant hindrance to the Chefs. You might say they constantly played like the away team, even at home.

Early in yesterdays game really highlighted this. Chiefs down 7 early but Colquitt buries the Jets, the defense holds, and they get a gift in the shanked punt, at the Jets 40. And we get Run Thomas Jones left, Run Thomas Jones right, 4 yard pass on 3rd and 8, FG. Literally the most predictable play calling possible, down to the whole "Go left then right" part. It was game over at that moment; if you're the Jets you know without a doubt right then you're winning this game, and if you're the Chefs you know you're losing it.

I mean, seriously? Thomas Jones has been done for a full year and a half now. He hasn't cracked 60 yards in a game all year, and has been over 10 rushes in 6 games. He's a corpse out there. Jackie Farking Battle, who barely made it off the scout squad/special teams this year, is twice the running back Thomas Jones is at this point, but Haley just keeps running him out there to get stuffed on terrible first and second down running plays. That was embarrassing.

coolio mack: I wouldn't be surprised if Eric Mangini got this job.

I'm sure the KC media is going to talk about Cower, Gruden, Les Miles... But I'm sure they'e going to hire someone like Rich Kotite...

Just think, last week Charlie Weis left the Chiefs to coach KU.

It would work over in the Geek tab, but here? Too obscure. Yes, I did submit this, but I was thinking someone would go more sports, not more nerd.

This would be amusing for the 2 games against the Broncos... especially if McDaniels could manage to beat the Tebows.

Cindy has a headache. So it could be weeks more of when will she play again articles.

We see so many of them that I almost look forward to the daily Tebow thread...

I think if Romeo Crennel turns in anything close to a respectable performance he gets the nod.
I bet that Pioli would have picked Crennel or Weiss over Haley in a heartbeat if they had been available at the time.

I don't see any 'big name' coach coming to take this job. And Miles has too much going for him at LSU to jump at a middling NFL job. He'll potentially have a better team next year, and he gets paid near NFL money.

BTW, Weis left Florida for KU. He quit the Chiefs last season to take the Gators OC job.

My first thought was what NHL team has a head coach names Haley?

This (possibly NSFW) instantly came to mind.

Personally I think they should let Weis pull double duty, coach both the Jayhawks and the Chiefs. Sure, it makes for a long weekend but Hey! Two paychecks!

Football around here has largely been a 3 ring circus anyway, might as well do something like that and give Colin Cowherd an aneurysm.

I like Jackie Battle cause his name sounds like a 70s blaxplotation flick

Jeff Fisher or Bill Cowher. Any thing else will be a bust. Hiring McDumbass would be like dividing by 0 and Pioli should be fired.
