I think they should change their name to "For Profit Murder Corporation".

This statement from the article is chilling.

Will the company's next name be STASSI?

Yes and John Ashcroft is in charge of ethics. What could possibly go wrong?

Nah, actually, he'd be totes cool. He tutored Alexander, after all.

all authoritarian regimes need their personal military protection forces. those constitutional laws that restrain the proper military and police are so cumbersome.

Back when I was fighting the Viet Cong in the Congo no self-respecting merc would sign on with Blackwater

Maybe there should be a law to prevent companies from changing their names. Supposedly the invisible hand of the market weeds out bad companies as people avoid their products... but if they can just rename themselves over and over to confuse consumers they are avoiding their deserved fate.

these 'dishonorable bastards' do more or less the same thing the US military does. but, you know, claiming that a US soldier is a coward because he didn't have the balls to refuse to serve in a series of reckless wars of choice that have caused the loss of prestige, wealth, and security for their country doesn't play well in jesusland. I know, let's fellate our military even more, since it's been at least 7 seconds since the last time I heard how our soldiers, whose total compensation including medical, retirement, insurance, mortgage, education, job training, food, affirmative-action-job-preference, and more is well over $100,000 these days even for the lowliest soldier, are forgotten and undersupported.

"ethics", in this case, means "what can we get away with according to international law"

Former Attorney General John Ashcroft now serves as ethics adviser, and Jack Quinn, a top lobbyist and former counsel to President Bill Clinton, is an independent director.

*snicker* Heh *snicker*

Academi, pronounced "academy," was chosen, he said, in part to evoke the ideas of a Platonic academy, where the ethos is of excellence, honor and discipline.

"That's what we want our ethos to be in the future - trained thinkers and warriors," he said

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Right. Because independent thought and a high moral code are precisely what you want in a band of
hired goons......er mercenaries......er "private security forces".

Interestingly enough, Xenophon and Plato were both students of Socrates.

Mercenaries are enemies of everyone who belives in any countries right to self govern.

Mercenaries are anarco-capitalists and the worst breed of them.

All mercenaries should be tried by what ever country they are in as non-affiliated enemy combatants and terrorists.

kbronsito: "if they can just rename themselves over and over to confuse consumers they are avoiding their deserved fate."

I have a hard time mustering any sympathy for people who hire mercs. Particularly those who might hire mercs without having done any due diligence. We're talking about companies that exist to kill people. If you can't be arsed to look into that as deep as a simple Google search... bummer for you.

And as for the public... if they had any interest we'd have banned and prosecuted these farkers by now. Blackwater doesn't even have to hide from the public. It simply does not care. Not as long as Blackwater are westerners who shoot at brown people.

PMC-highly trained soldier recruited to fight private wars for government interest. Is primarily attracted through competitive pay and benefits options.

US Servicemember-Highly trained solder recruited to fight private wars for government interest. Is primarily attracted through competitve pay and benefits options.

Having served in the military and been around 'contractors' the REAL difference between the 2 is that PMC's argued for a better contract.

Really, when is the last time the US deployed its troops in a manner consistent with safeguarding American lives and prosperity rather than the bottom line of a corporate interest?
