Goldfish can be hardy critters, for something that costs seven cents. I built a pond at my last house, and one of those dudes just would not die. After three years he was like a foot long. And the pond became self sufficient. I didn't feed them for six months, yet all lived. Even had frogs and tadpoles join in.

Also once owned a bass in a tank that we fed goldfish to. Good times.
