Pedophile/= homo. They are attracted to kids. And the problem with catholic priests is the whole celibacy thing. Normal men aren't built for that. Unfortunately the church draws a lot of pedophiles as well as gay men who choose to stay in the closet (to some degree) due to being told by the church that being gay is wrong. Both groups join with the misconception that the vow of celibacy and committing their life to the church will help them deal with their urges, but it won't.
I know a few people who went to the seminary and left because of all the people there who were complete perverts of various types.
I think the church would be much better served if they allowed both men and women as priests and allowed them to marry - then they might get more normal people in the priesthood. As it is, I find it especially strange when you're supposed to take marital advice from a guy who can't even date (openly at least), let alone marry.
