Facts don't trump partisanship when it comes to voting. Neither side of the fence holds their own leaders to the same account as they do the opposition. Perception trumps all.

2011-12-11 02:41:15 PM
Facts are what elitists use to defend their job killing policies. Real leaders gauge a situation by what their gut and prayer tell them.

Which is why the general election debates will be so interesting to watch. No one calls the other out in these GOP (outside of a candidate defending themselves from a "fact" spoken about them by another candidate) debates, because they all repeat the same lies about the last 3 years and the Obama administration. Obama won't let whoever the GOP candidate is get away with that. It will be a real debate, not just a bunch of people spouting RW talking points.

No, that's not true in all cases and with all people. As I often say, life isn't black and white like you're suggesting.

My review of GOP Presidential candidates indicates they range from the loony to desperately appealing to party members who are more extremely right than moderate.

I stick with President Obama presently because he's the best choice in the race so far.

/So, what should we do then, Bobby?
//Vote Republican?

Apparently RON PAUL and Rick Santorum (new window)were factually correct.

Or so blitheringly out of touch with reality that they really couldn't be fact checked.

Utterly amazing that the Republicans are frothing at the mouth against a candidate who would have been considered a center-right Republican in the 70s on virtually every foreign policy and economic policy issue. When you realize exactly how far to the right Obama is compared to any classic measure of right vs. left, you have to conclude that the ONLY thing they're railing about is the "near" issue.

I can edit that for those who tl;dr. "Don't speak for other people and don't put words in their mouths. Speak for yourself."

Agreed. However, I monitor candidates' accuracy to judge grasp of facts and general knowledge. Bachmann is just out in left field. Rommey, who has some good points, is bowing to the extreme GOP right, like McCain in 2008. I actually liked Huntsman as he seems really level-headed. But he didn't stand a chance with the Republican masses.

It's a primary debate. It's a contest of whoever can tell the most crowd-pleasing lie most convincingly and with the most conviction. You're probably safe assuming that every material claim they make is false.

Republicans convinced themselves that all democrats are liars, making it acceptable to lie.

They should have just made a list of all the times the candidates got it right.

/Article would have been a lot shorter is all I'm sayin'.

And Michele Bachmann recycled a bogus claim about projected job losses under the new federal health care law.

Rick Perry again falsely accused Romney of writing that the Massachusetts health care law should be a model for the nation,...

The Texas governor has made this claim a few times, though he used to say the nation had lost 2.5 million jobs...

It's not just the fact that it's derp.

It's the fact that it's all recycled derp.

If you are gonna derp at least have the simple courtesy to make up fresh nonsense from time to time in order to keep folks from getting bored.

These people are making leaders anyways which means: a) They believe what hey said, and are leading the USA with delusions and mistakes. OR b) They don't believe what they said, and therefore must not care if the public knows the basis for their decisions.

Either way, the debate suggests that elections in the US are not decided by reasonable debate about the basis of policies. Decisions are made without any appeal for public consent. So the public can ignore the debates and let their leaders continue to make decisions behind closed doors, or they can watch the debates and vote against faslehood, but they can't vote for truth (or even accurate data). So what makes the USA a republic, again? Plato's noble lie and a Guardian class, is it?

Republicans and stupid people tend to think that the world is 1-dimensional and this 1 dimension neatly corresponds to good/bad, conservative/liberal, etc.

A fair number of them think the Nazis were leftist socialists because they cannot conceive of an independent dimension measuring authoritarianism.

I can post hours of Librul pundits taking Obama, Pelosi, and Reid to task on all manner of issues.

I can also post hours and hours of Faux News pundits explaining away The Shrubs selling out on Conservative principles like balanced budgets, smaller gubment and nation building.

I've known two different people, total TeaTards, but otherwise very intelligent - having highly technical jobs and doing well at them. I asked both of them how in the hell they could sit there and spout the simplistic, and obviously wrong, crap that they do when it comes to politics. They both more or less said that politics is complicated and it's easier for them to just keep it simple, very simple.

And then there are those just born stupid, who usually identify with conservatism in the same way they identify with their favorite NASCAR driver or would cheer a witch burning.

I suspect he may openly claim that gun laws are his prime reason for his voting methodology, but if it were to change, I hazard to guess that he would find some other champion cause for which he would remain there entrenched.

That reminds me, though, I really wish the Democratic Party would pull up the big-boy panties and Gun-It-Up already. Take away the platform from the opposition and they have no reason by which they can argue.
