Might be fun. Hope it's better than Battlefield Earth.

/Then again, Plan 9 From Outer Space was bettter than Battlefield Earth.

So....Independence Day 2?

2011-12-11 03:43:12 PM
Welp, that looks boring.

I would've preferred a Risk movie. Imagine Timothy Olyphant leading his army into Siam.

I Have The Touch of a Shocked Monkey: I would've preferred a Risk movie. Imagine Timothy Olyphant leading his army into Siam.

It'd be boring, half the movie would just be armies mustering in Indonesia.

Also, "where's the Captain?"
"He's dead"
"So who's in charge"
"You are, sir."

How incompetent do you have to be to not know the chain of command?

Fine, your thoughts on Michael Douglas and Jesse Eisenberg in the Monopoly movie, as they use their contacts in the black market to take over Atlantic City's casino business?

Wait, is that real? I'll watch it if Aaron Sorkin writes it.

It's about as real as the Trivial Pursuit TV series involving Neil Patrick Harris visiting various world destinations on his quest for knowledge about Nigerian female handball as well as guano (lots of poop jokes in that episode, but I've said too much.)

Monopoly would be the perfect Aaron Sorkin movie, since the board is just one continual corridor that just continues on forever, lending itself to unending fast-paced dialog.

Here's my pitch: An Aaron Sorkin movie with set design based on the art of M. C. Escher.

Does the navy even use battleships anymore? I thought they were long since obsolete.

Well, we already had one done by Christopher Nolan that was apparently based on this one:

But I'm not so sure what Sorkin could do with this:

They confirmed that the top of the chain is gone, not the links between the top and the person asking the question. Assuming that the questioner isn't the second in command, it's a perfectly reasonable question.

The dub over of the girl talking about her father warning her "they are out there and we have to find them before they find us" bit reminded me of Doom: Repercussions of Evil.

This is one of those cases where I have to wonder why they're even bothering to call it Battleship. Why pay the licensing fee? What does this have to do with the game? Is it just so that Liam Neeson can angrily exclaim at some point in the movie, "You sunk my Battleship," and make everyone laugh?

Hopefully a couple hundred million dollar flop that will ruin the careers of the studio execs that gave it the greenlight as well as spawn several memes and a good parody.

The fact that they made a Battleship movie isn't the saddest part, it's that they decided to make a $250 million Battleship movie.

But I won't be surprised when the Transformers crowd makes it a success.

Make a ruckus over it. That's exactly how the famous line got into Snakes on a Plane.

From the look of this trailer this movie was fark all to do with, well, a game that doesn't have a plot. They could just drop the battleship name and call it something generic like, "Invasion" and it'll probably make more sense.

Actually, now that I think of it, I have an idea. Take the movie as is and rename it Space Invaders.

2011-12-11 10:39:46 PM
Okay, I wasn't expecting aliens. I sort of thought they'd present it as a cat-and-mouse game between two fleets of surface ships and submarines. Naive of me, I guess.

There is no way Hollywood could possibly make a movie about a game franchise that has anything to do with the premise of the game. I'm convinced that Hollywood producers view franchise movies as nothing more than a badge they can slap on any steaming pile of shiat to sell it at absurdly inflated prices. It's like they look at the fashion industry and think, "That's a business model worth imitating."

I'll watch it, and probably enjoy it.

Fine art it is not, but who cares?

I want to watch a movie about tornados hitting Normandy in June 1944 and the Allies and Nazis having to team up to fight the aliens riding dinosaurs that get spat out of them. That would be a good movie, especially the bit where Johnny Depp flying the Mosquito bomber drops the glue covered wasp's nest right between the eyes of the T-Rex. I'd pay to see that.
