In response, some Alabama officials have suggested putting state prison inmates to work in the fields to do the jobs once performed by immigrants.

Sheldon Day, the mayor of Thomasville, Alabama, has already seen the reality of McManus' concerns. After Day recruited a Canadian steel company to Thomasville in July 2010, he said 25 companies have visited the town about building plants there. But he told the Wall Street Journal that since the law went into effect, at least one company turned down a visit because of the immigration law. And Golden Dragon Precise Copper Tube Group, a Chinese company that in March pledged to build a $100 million factory in Thomasville, is reconsidering its decision to build a plant in Alabama after the law went into effect.

I love the Law of Unintended Consequences. Nothing makes me feel as good as people screwing themselves in ways they never imagined possible.

You know what, Alabama? We're going to have to give your state's rights to someone a little less crazy like Puerto Rico or DC.

Just until you can produce your paperwork. I'm sure you understand.

Maybe i'm just a jerk, but i don't think Alabama should change their law, only because it needs to be made VERY clear how much of a giant clusterf**k of an idea it is. Not only does this law need to backfire, it needs to f them up the a, SO HARD, it would be political suicide to even think about doing it elsewhere.

Seriously, if they don't want to be arrested, carry the required documents.

Ignorant Farkers make my goiters grow.

Any law that says "illegal immigrants" must be wrong...right? And because the rest of the left wing wont help fight against people who are not here legally, the fight is labeled wrongfully. So....in the end, the solution is call everyone who thinks that illegal immigration is wrong "bad guys". When solving the immigration problem is/would be the answer. But hey...lets get on with the name calling. Worked for the left for years now...so....

While the intent behind the law is obvious and stupid, why is it so hard for foreign corporate leaders to carry a drivers license with them? Is this some sort of "I'm above the little people" arrogance that big business is use to getting away with? Here's a clue, you're the officer of a company from a foreign land, not a diplomat. You don't have immunity no matter how much the guys back at home let you get away with. If you want to ignore the law, become a diplomat or get citizenship and become a politican or the officer of a company here. But being the junior vp of syrup warming operations in Mudistan isn't going to get the good old boys to give you a free pass like it would if you were the manager of the local Bass Pro Shop. While in foreign counties, follow their laws, even if your local peers don't have to.

Get used to this, folks. Prison slave labor used to replace your jobs. The prison industrial complex has already branched out into telemarketing, call centers, manufacturing, and computer refurbishing.

And you thought it was only China and India taking your jobs?

What he's trying to say is, "They done goofed. The consequences will never be the same!"

What "I'm" trying to say is if there's a worker shortage, start paying what Alabamans will accept, to do the job. If Alabamans want more money to do the job, then there's no choice for employers, while this law is in effect.

Pay more for the job, and Alabamans will do the work. You made your bed, now you farking LIE IN IT.
