$880,000 in unpaid federal payroll taxes

The treasurer or similar responsible officer of an organization is personally responsible for making sure payroll taxes are paid. This is an exception to the rule that debts of a business are not debts of its employees or officers.

Yeah, most non profits that aren't corrupt are horrendously inefficient but that's what happens when people throw their money away at buzzwords.

Now, instead of the taxpayers of New York State, Mac Daddy Al is farking the rest of the nation.

Rich Democrats never pay taxes. No wonder they don't give a shiat what the tax rate is. Has the left any shame? Or will they just call the news article racist, like they have Sharpton's entire political career?

Sharpton and the left that support him have done far more harm to racial relations than the KKK could ever do.

Yes because Al Sharpton rounded up a bunch of white people and lynched them

FTA: "Sharpton has said he is on a repayment plan with state and federal-tax authorities.

NAN last year took in more than $3 million in donations, which allowed it to chip away at its tax burden. This year, its board of directors voted to resolve the tax issues and paid all back state taxes, said Executive Director Tamika Mallory."

His company got behind and is trying to pay back its debts. I don't think he is running for office or anything like that, he's just a failed businessman. So what's the big deal?

Please don't call him 'Reverend' Sharpton. He's not a 'Rev'. He has no church or congregation and as far as I know never did.

Just because I call myself 'Lord High Poobah' doesn't mean that everyone must call me by that title.

// But it would be cool.

The day that MSNBC gave Sharpton his own show was the day I stopped watching. (Other than Maddow from time to time.)

The guy is scum and always has been scum. I don't see a lick of difference between him and any of these other con-men "pastors" who turn up on the evangelical TV circuit to fleece the rubes (Tilton, Hinn, Swaggart, et al), except for the approach. In the end, it's all about convincing your target audience that you represent or serve them in some way and hit them up for money for doing so.

Not a fan of Sharpton but, from wiki:

Sharpton was licensed and ordained a Pentecostal minister by Bishop F.D. Washington at the age of nine[72] or ten.[73] After Bishop Washington's death in the late 1980s, Sharpton became a Baptist. He was re-baptized as a member of the Bethany Baptist Church in 1994 by the Reverend William Jones[28] and became a Baptist minister.[72][74]

So he's got as much right as anybody.

Having just disentangled myself from a non-profit, there's a lot of room for corruption and graft within them. Especially at the upper levels.

Yes, the entire article was actually about how his organization is in the process of paying off it's debt. They have payment plans in place, and have taken steps to follow them.

It is kind of cool that you can tell who's out to score partisan bonus points by who ignores this and goes straight for the "lol librulz 1% hurrr..."

This is one of those threads where people just go ahead and say "please flag me in pink so you know not to take me seriously later."

But hey, he's still every bit as honest as any of the GOP candidates. In fact, their M.O.'s are so much alike, he could even be Newt's brother from another mother!

No reputable charity spends more than 20% of its income on its own overhead.

I had a chance to look at the books of some local charities a few years ago, and it's amazing how much some of them spend on payroll and other expenses- but especially payroll- vs. what gets passed on to the people they're helping.

People have been calling this "news" article racist for Sharpton's entire political career? Did the article travel back in time?

The "people are racist because black people make them racist" argument is one of my favorites. It is a beautiful combination of circular logic and willful disregard of pertinent facts. Justice Thomas, for example, believes that black people are regarded as less productive and less qualified because affirmative action has convinced white people that black people need a leg up to get ahead. He gets there by completely ignoring the fact that these same people believed in this same inherent inferiority before affirmative action. Its as though racism was instantaneously cured by the martyrdom of MLK in 1968, then re-invented by the Warren Court in 1954.

Its even funnier when white people make the argument, as though they are capable of awareness that affirmative action has influenced their beliefs to give them an incorrect impression, but incapable of then reaching the correct impression, powerless to treat people equally because black people just won't let them.

/news is in quotes because its from the Post, not because of the subject matter

Not really.

You can call yourself whatever the hell you want in America.

For instance, some people who run militias call themselves Colonels even though they never held such a rank in any branch of the US Military.

justice thomas believes many people will wonder if black students at great universities got there because of the color of their skin or on merit because the system prefers black students with significantly lower test scores and grades to asians that score fantastically high. so the black students that are there because of what they achieved and not the color of their skin have a cloud over them too. and that wouldn't be an incorrect impression, because blacks with lower scores are routinely let in. affirmative action gives people the impression that many blacks that make it into certain universities have not have earned their spot, and this is a correct assumption, because many of them didn't. but that isn't nearly the biggest problem. the biggest problem is the state and federal governments support the penalization of folks for being born a certain color. it is a policy that penalizes people for being the race they were born as and happen to be. a racist government policy that you support. the very definition of government perpetrating evil upon it's citizens.

all that horseshiat about affirmative action giving people the incorrect assumption that they somehow are aware of is just that, horseshiat.
affirmative action gives them the correct impression, that some races are treated preferentially and that those who benefit are not as deserving of the status they receive through racist policies that put them there and kept more much deserving people born of the a race liberals don't happen to favor on the outside.

The only thing you really need in order to be called "reverend" is a person or group who is willing to call you that.

If you really want to get formal and have some paperwork to back up your claim to the honorific, you can do so here (new window). A bit of typing, a few clicks of the mouse and boom, you're ordained.

If you want to go even further, you can get a Doctorate of Divinity or Dr. of Metaphysics at this link (new window).

These degrees have exactly the same validity as those offered by any other unaccredited College or University.

(I've even got one around here someplace, and I'm a foaming-at-the-mouth atheist heathen scum.)

(I always pay my taxes.)
