Had to do it

Never had the boobies time-loop before

Also, Twilight sucks

I actually kinda enjoyed Valentine's Day for the narminess of a lot of it, so I probably won't mind seeing this.

That said, ANYTHING that puts a stop to the mindless rampage of Twihards is fine in my book!

I got lazy this weekend but I really really wanted to see "Shame" starring Michael Fassbender and Carey Mulligan. It's got mostly great reviews.

Why do people think they want to see Jonah Hill in a movie?

I passed on Valentine's Day because of Julia Roberts.

I'm passing on New Year's Eve because it looks like sheer, concentrated pain.

Uncle Buck, he is not.

I don't mind Jonah Hill, though I don't think he's a good lead.

also, fark Allen Gregory.

fark this, I'll just stay home and watch Human Centipede II again

Jonah Hill is simply not that funny. He tries to hard on camera, that and looks obnoxious.

Will Farrell is the same way, where its uncomfortable watching a SNL sketch drag on for 90 mins.

Hill can get better in time. What he should do is dress in a hoodie and go to one of his movies, and see how people react to his comedy. From there he can learn what was working and what wasn't.

The only way to get better in anything is to take criticisms on what is wrong, and man up and fix them.

Based on the trailers, this film seemed like one of those Robert Altman or Woody Allen movies, you know, where all these renowned actors got together to compile a bunch of vignettes that we're supposed to think are profound but not really. You know the ones.

2011-12-11 01:24:28 PM
I want to see New Years Eve just because Zac Ephron is in it.

Elf is still one of the best Holiday movies out there. Anchor Man, Zoolander and The Other Guys were all hilarious and Stranger Than Fiction proved he could be funny in a non slapstick role.

2011-12-11 01:34:23 PM
I saw The Sitter and amusing. was it great, no but it moved along quickly and had some pretty funny moments. I also saw the trailer for 21 Jump street and that looks like It may actually be funny.

2011-12-11 01:35:07 PM
Here's what I'm wondering about this film. It's described as a "series of vignettes" (as was Valentine's Day). It cost $56m to make, yet has 20 something star names, including people like De Niro, Halle Berry, Zac Efron and Ashton Kucher. This isn't an Oscar winner, so such numbers doesn't add up. It should be a $100m+ film with that cast.

So, here's my guess: this is basically a film for actors on downtime. Because it's vignettes, you don't have to co-ordinate a large cast, just a few actors at a time. You just shoot the actor when he's got a week between 2 other pictures. Their agent will take it for a bargain price because they can't slip another movie into a week's gap.

You then have a movie full of stars and the idiots who believe that movie stars=good movies (rather than writers or directors or even the farking cinematographer) will spot someone out of the 20 they like and go and see it. It's genius really. Artistically horrible, but financial genius.

Stranger is excluded, as im just going on comedy.

Elf was probably the best movie he did, but Anchorman was basically a Frat-Pack film so Farrell didn't truly lead the film.

Zoolander was Ben Stiller's baby.

He'shiat or miss. But Land of the Lost, and Semi-Pro, Roxberry are just wrong.

His comedy is best taken in small doses.

At least he is not Mike Myers.

I went into The Sitter with very low expectations, and said expectations were met. At least it was a mercifully short torture session.

I really want to see "The Sitter" but I can't get anyone to go with me and I'm not the sort to go to movies by myself.

Not sure why people dislike Jonah Hill -- he's been in a lot of great movies. And "The Sitter" looks hilarious. *shrug*

Apos: I'm confused: They both look like exercises in unrelenting cinematic torture. Did you lose a bet or something the first time around?

It's like this: I probably wouldn't see Valentine's Day voluntarily as it is, but with Julia Roberts in it, it's a DEFINITE no-go. That's a shame, because I *am* a Hector Elizondo fan.

I definitely won't see New Year's Eve because it looks godawful. More so than Valentine's Day.

I would never make a bet in which I'd have to see either film upon losing. I don't hate myself THAT much.

2011-12-11 02:19:46 PM
Farkers, look at it this way: Would you rather have the cinematic travesty that is the Twilight "Saga" continue to be in first place at the box office, or would you rather it be beaten by a generic rom com?

Funbags: So, its like Avatar?

No. Love or hate James Cameron, he doesn't strike me as a cynical filmmaker. He was offered Terminator 3 and turned it down, because he couldn't see a story worth telling. He could have done what they did with T3 and just taken the money.

You may not like Avatar, but I don't think it's a cynically made film. I think that packing as many names into a movie just to really put them on the cast list is cynical filmmaking.

Honestly? I'd rather see a lot of romantic comedies flood the market than anything even remotely related to or inspired by the Twilight "Saga."

I hope it's going to get a wider release. My friends and I ran into the same problem -- luckily we're in LA, but I think we had our choice of a grand three theaters. (I think it was good, but I'm not sure, as we had a group of old people behind us who kept asking each other loud, inane questions.)

I can't imagine that it wouldn't get a wider release; from what I understand it's been very successful in the UK, it's a got an all-star cast, and it's basically Oscar bait - three things that I would think would mean a wide release.

Also, I'm in South Florida. and it's not playing anywhere near me. Like, within 1000 miles.

fisker: Why do people think they want to see Jonah Hill in a movie?

I used to think that he was funny, but after that awful Allen Gregory show I realize he's not funny at all. Superbad was the only really good thing he was in, and that was because he was getting hit all the time and deserved it. He started his career as a young double for Seth Rogen, and hasn't really gone beyond that. Even his weight loss reveals he's just not that talented outside of being the porky guy.

Believe me, I'd much rather have THAT be number one, but if it didn't happen at release, I seriously doubt it's going to happen at all, unfortunately. The problem was that too many good family movies came out the same weekend. Split the dollars.
