well that makes sense. song two has replaced gary glitter as the generic song to be played when every minor league hockey team in america scores a goal.

they also had "boys & girls" which was okay.

and uhm.. hmm... i like gorillaz, but that doesn't count, right?

Who is blur and is Paul McCartney their lead singer?

/downloaded a McCartney concert years ago and I never heard anyone sing "WOOOHOOOOO" so much in my life. I think I listened to it once. Waste of disk space that was.

Not even close. That honor goes to "Woo Hoo" by the by 5.6.7.8's. It's best known as the one Vonage uses in their ads.

/Will never even consider using Vonage because of it.

Your "Worst" threshold clearly needs recalibrating.

Song 2 was actually a spoof of "connect the dots" post-grunge bands that were popular when the song came out. The song came to be loved by fans of that exact music.

You see, you are wrong there - Song 2 is probably their weakest song. The fact that it became their most popular is a cause of confusion to me.

Followed quickly by "Boys and Girls". People complaining about how bad Blur is clearly haven't given Blur a shot. <3 "This is a Low"

Correct. It's their only song that sounds like a "hit single". Hit singles sound like hit singles because they are upbeat and pleasant to listen to. Blur doesn't like making music that is fun and upbeat, so they made a parody that sounded so much exactly like a hit single that it became a hit single because nobody could tell it was a parody because it was fun and upbeat. And exactly two minutes long.

I'd agree, but "Coffee & TV" was pretty upbeat. I like that song a lot. Also "To The End" and "This Is A Low". Not to mention "Parklife" and "Charmless Man".

Hell, Blur was great, screw anyone who says otherwise.

yeah, not like SONG 2 was their ONLY upbeat song...although it was indeed meant to parody similar hits of the day, blur have a varied catalogue of upbeat, slow and morose, and styles in between. i don't know about here in the usa, but when i was stationed in germany "coffee & tv" was in regular rotation on the music video shows...as was "country house" (we got sky and several other british stations so we'd have english-speaking tv aside from the military-run stations)

I didn't mean all of those songs I listed to stand as examples of their upbeat songs, I was just using it as an excuse to list some of my favorites since most of my friends don't listen to Blur. At a friend's house one night after much drinking we all had a thing where we played the song that plays in our head when we were in an incredibly happy, ecstatic mood, as well as that song's polar opposite for us: the song we'd play on the verge of suicide.

My "happy" song was "$160 Million Chinese Man" by David Holmes
My "sad" song was "No Distance Left To Run" by Blur.

My friend's didn't let me play anything after NDLtR. :(

NateAsbestos: 160 Million Chinese Man
Death of the Party, Badhead and Out of Time are all candidates for my "suicide playlist". NDLTR I'll count out. No chance of me coming to my senses or backing out with that song playing!
