FTAAll four have been charged with operating a sexually oriented business without a license, a county ordinance violation, and operating a bottle club without proper zoning and licensing, a second-degree misdemeanor.

You know there's something wrong with America when gays can serve openly in the military, but consenting adults can't violate county zoning ordinances.

Yes, I put an apostrophe where it doesn't belong. Deal with it.

Inside, detectives found three bedrooms lined wall to wall with beds.

MY GOD, please don't tell me they had BEDROOMS with BEDS in them.

Truly this is shocking news. Next thing you know they'll have bathtubs in the bathroom. And then where will it end?

A guy in Massachusetts was running a "horny bi dads orgy" across the street from a middle school. Neighbors were pissed.

Crudbucket

Sexually oriented business zoning rules are usually an attempt to ban sex clubs. With liquor licenses the government has a lot more financial interest.

They kept teasing this on the local news, "You'll be shocked to learn what was happening in this seemingly normal Seffner home". I thought they were at least sacrificing people to Kali or something.

Its sex, without it, humans as a species would not survive. Get over it. Dont know why people get so hung up on it.

They are being charged with operating a bottle club because people brought over bottles of alcohol and shared with other people.

How is that a crime? Isn't that just every party ever?

2011-12-11 08:21:49 AM
It's amusing that your more liberal-minded folks are all in favor of strict zoning and public health laws.....until they come for the swingers' clubs.

the sexual relations occuring in such establishments under such circumstances are an abomination unto God because the people involved are most likely taking precautions to prevent the possibility of pregnancy! God intended for every sexual encounter to be a potential baby maker!

(hopefully your sarcasm detector is going off)

also, when we moved down here to the dfw metroplex a little over 3 years ago a similar thing was happening just south of dallas in duncanville. they got shut down. the whole metroplex sleeps easier. (more sarcasm)

The issue is that money was changing hands. If you charge people to come to your house party and share booze, that's illegal.

They probably wouldn't if it were nothing but 20 somethings with hard bodies all oiled up and.... errmmm... nevermind...

These people? In their 50's...

Like JerseyTim says: This thread is just fine without pictures...

It sounds like the problem was that they were charging admission fees. That takes it out of the realm of just a few friends coming over for a private "party", and into the business realm - which is regulated by local authorities and zoning.

2011-12-11 08:27:24 AM
Zoning laws?

Zoning laws are used to stop certain businesses types from forming in the first place. Do you think there is an area zoned in which one of these clubs can open? If there were and one opened it would quickly be zoned out of existence.

I'm looking at you NYC.

Free expression, not yours.

there is a swingers club just down the road from our apt. complex. it is apparently a legally licensed business. it is in an area between euless and arlington that feels like it's out in the country...i think it may actually be one of those strange thin extensions of ft. worth that includes the strip club area of fm 157. but supposedly this place doesn't allow sex in the club, it's supposedly a place to meet like-minded folks so you can all continue the fun at your house.

Remember, God made zoning laws to control terrible things like this.

i like that the neighbor they interviewed didn't seem to care at all. she was like "yeah they were having orgies or something, no big deal. i didn't even know it was illegal." usually they manage to find the one person on that street who would be outraged. apparently they couldn't find one this time.

FTA:
Couples were allowed into the club free, deputies said, and single men and women were charged various fees to enter.

Here is where they went wrong. If they were charging to enter, they were running a business. This gives the prudes a legal reason to shut it down.

/how much do you charge a single woman to enter? ($.01 ?)
//how much do you charge a single man to enter? ($1000?)

We have swingers clubs around here, they're not even particularly subtle anymore since a club in Quebec fought the law and the court sided with them. They don't hang signs out or anything, but they don't hide, either.

You have a choice, though. Old, overweight smokers or groups with attractive women who are actually prostitutes guys paid to bypass the 'no single males' rules.

Sounds like the problem was zoning and business licensing laws. They would have had the same legal issues running a bingo parlor in a residential area.

It's cool that you stopped by to explain what sex is though, and to urge us all to get over it.

Cataholic: It's amusing that your more liberal-minded folks are all in favor of strict zoning and public health laws.....until they come for the swingers' clubs.

I'm in favor of strict laws in the city, but since the article continually refers to "county ordinances" and "sheriff's office" I'm guessing it was outside city limits. If it was in the city, you'd have potential parking issues, noise issues, and so forth, all of which necessitates strict zoning laws.

This was happening out in the country where they had ample room for parking on their lot, weren't bothering the neighbors, and generally keeping to themselves. So yeah, I'm okay with it.

That's what I thought when I read the article too. I got the feeling that if the county was collecting some kind of fee/tax, they wouldn't necessarily have a problem with the place.

Seems to me this mess could have been avoided by not charging a membership fee. Regarding real bars and strip clubs (the types of businesses these ordinances were designed to address), there's a real public health and safety interest in being able to regulate those businesses.

Looks like the sheriff is not charging the members who were not part of running what was apparently a business, so it's not really prosecuting adultery or kinkiness.

Complaints from neighbors about the home at 11326 Brightridge Drive kicked off a six-week investigation by sheriff's detectives and agents from the state Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco.

It took them six weeks to investigate. Then they found out when they were having their Christmas party and did the raid then, so they could confiscate all the presents and booze. Later this week they will bring them to their own Christmas party.

/I know a lot of cops. They love to "confiscate" alcohol.
