What's with that guy's hair? He looks like James Dean on Rogaine.

Maybe this will be the comic book movie reboot that kills comic book movie reboots.

inkblot: Maybe this will be the comic book movie reboot that kills comic book movie reboots.

Comic book movies in general just need to go away.

When Spider-Man came out a decade ago, it was a wonderful time. Besides X-Men in 1999, all that was representing mainstream superhero movies at the time was Shumacher's Batman and Robin.

But after Spider-Man hit huge, the Big Two started pumping any old crap onto the screen... Ghost Rider, Fantastic Four, Ang Lee's Hulk... and it only got worse, until we wound up with complete crap like Jonah Hex and Green Lantern.

...Not that there's anything wrong with the characters, but the movies have turned to shiat.

And now, since various companies are desperate to hold onto the rights to certain properties, we get the reboots of films less than a decade old, and Spider-Man is tarted up for the Twilight crowd.

When the superhero movie craze began, it looked to be a good thing. Instead, it became a lesson to fanboys everywhere... be careful what you wish for, because you just might get it.

Well, Emma Stone will be in it. I can go see it for that reason and that reason only.
Still, the future of the franchise, it doesn't look too well...

WTF is with the hair?

2011-12-11 05:43:36 AM
Meh, it looks like some of the Romita Jr. stuff. Ultimates, too. Could be worse.

A new reboot of Spiderman that tells the same story of how Spiderman became Spiderman is becoming my favorite holiday tradition.

According to the poster this is an untold story. It will be very untelling.

Did he go to the barber and say "Anime my hair and Dukakis my eyebrows?"

No, see it is completely different this time.

He gets bitten by a banana spider instead of an orb weaver. Changes the whole tone of the movie I hear.

Thats not Donald Glover.

But it is nice to see Jean Ralphio get some work after entertainment 720

He...glistens. And his neck looks like he's stretching it like Mr. Fantastic.

I wonder if it was difficult to shoot this movie on Mondays.

And when they ran out of lasagna.

That picture makes me glad I am not a Spiderman fan.... if I was I would be very very angry.

Or, you could, you know, just not go see the movie and stop pretending you really give a shiat.

CSB:
I went over to a friends house a couple days ago to help him christen his new bong. So, we rip a few bowls and start talking about various cartoon series we enjoyed through our youth. Turns out he's a MAJOR comics/cartoons(and movies) based on comics fan. I got the entire plot/story synopsis for some animated Spider Man series that happened laid out for me, which seemed to have involved alternate universes with various forms of Spider Men. As a bonus, I got the entire history of the X-Men explained as well.
Yeah, all I have to contribute.

I don't get it. How is he any worse than the last one, except I guess the hair?

Anyway, they're only doing this because if they don't make a Spidey movie every so often Sony loses the rights it it goes back to Marvel. So it's an even more cynical cash grab than other sequel/reboots/reimaginings/remakes.

I can't wait for the part where Uncle Ben dies!

whoops. spoiler?

LookS like he has Johnny Bravo hair.

If his hair gets any taller, he's not going to be able to put on the mask.

2011-12-11 09:07:12 AM
To be fair, have you read the old Spider-man books? He was always an emo boy.

forget Donald Glover, I would pay to see a Spider-Man movie played, in character, by Jean Ralphio.

Granted, Spider-Man's never been an icon of hairy-chested grunting masculinity, but that's... um...

Hm.

Dear Powers-that-be:

Please, no Doctor Strange movie. I wanted to see that at first, but I've changed my mind. I don't want to see you turn my good Doctor into a Vegas act, and I'm afraid that's exactly what you'll do.

If I had wondered, the trailer that was released a month ago cleared things up. What a stupid headline.

I thought the previous film franchise bit the dust because the third one was too emo (among other problems). This one looks to out-emo it in every direction.

Will we ever have a witty, sarcastic spiderman?

...or will we have to wait for the Deadpool movie?

I don't want to be that guy and I know that the Photoshop guy put a lot of work into it but that teaser poster is farking lame. It's just frustrating in that I do motion graphic shiat and I probably couldn't do any better but I know a lot of starving Photoshop guys who could. The blur tool. Use it, don't abuse it.

Me too. I liked the Norton one too, but didn't see it as a vast improvement (and when you replace Jennifer Connolly with Liv Tyler how can you call it an improvement?).

I think FNB is forgetting some great movies that have come out as a result of the comic movie craze - Watchmen, Iron Man, Captain America, Scott Pilgrim, Kick Ass...and Batman Begins and The Dark Knight (both came out after Spider-Man).

Troy McClure: Emma Stone is twenty kinds of hot, but she's an odd fit for this part. Like Dunst, I don't look at her and think model.

Emma Stone is playing Gwen Stacy, not Mary Jane Watson.

You guys have actually read a Spider-man comic at some point, haven't you?

I don't know anything about the guy or his acting abilities, but just from a physical standpoint, he look a hell of a lot more like Peter Parker than Tobey Maguire did.

Add in Gwen Stacey and Denis Leary as her father, Captain George Stacey, and I'm actually looking forward to this.

I'll usually give a movie a shot whether it's a remake or a sequel. Batman Begins made me start thinking that cause I didn't watch it for a long time until my friends practically made me and I loved it. It's just too early for another origin story and the trailer just made it look boring. I'm going to wait until I hear what people say about it before I go check it out.

alwaysjaded: Batman Begins made me start thinking that cause I didn't watch it for a long time until my friends practically made me and I loved it.

Batman Begins was just so "procedural". Bruce Wayne went to train as a ninja and then we had to learn how he had to buy an extra thousand Bat-transmitters to cover what he was doing....he just wasn't insane enough. That's why Michael Keaton was better. This Batman/Bruce Wayne is just too rational, too sane, too pragmatic.

As for Spider-Man...who gives a shiat. It makes for cool video games.

Mugato: I don't get it. How is he any worse than the last one, except I guess the hair?

I honestly don't see what everyone is fussing about (keeping in mind I never read the comic). I don't know if the movie will be good or bad, but aside from the whole "been there, done that" reboot thing, I've seen nothing to indicate that this movie will be particularly bad. The teaser trailer and poster were okay...they're nothing great, but I don't think they're all that bad, either.

It seems like everyone could at least wait until we get a full trailer before mindlessly bashing the film. But that's just my two cents.
