I need that in a classic series TARDIS hum.

2011-12-10 11:13:56 PM
Friend of mine from work did the sound for this series.
I suppose I could get any loop of sound from him.
But I'd rather have him knap me a flint arrowhead.
That's what he does now, and well.

Here's an example of the TARDIS hum looped, but unfortunately you can hear really clearly where the loop starts over which would drive me nuts pretty quickly.

/link pops, hum autoplays in the background of the page

I miss the crazy front-loading commercial washer sounds they used in doctor who.

This is a really nice 12 second clip... why it needed to be 24 hours long I don't know.

Will someone please just build the Enterprise already. One giant aircraft carrier sized 1:1 replica. It would be a hell of a lot of fun. Put the damn thing down in Vegas, use it as hotel, and make some money.

Geeks would like it. Average Vegas tourist? Maybe not so much. They had "The Star Trek Experience" there for years, but had to end that eventually when it became clear that TNG was well past its prime.

Just have some star fleet looking buildings by it. Like a dry dock or whatever. Make that the casino with a heavy sci fi theme. As for the Enterprise, make it TOS and go with the its-been-long-enough-now-its-cool retro thing.

Ed Grubermann: Way ahead of you.

HA!

Actually, one of my best friends worked at the Experience near the end.The reason wasn't because TNG or Trek in general was loosing it's appeal, it's because Paramount payed way too much to get into the theme park industry and were getting seriously burned. The Experience in Vegas was the only property owned by Paramount showing a consistent profit; the theme parks were so under-performing that they sank the entire Paramount Parks division, which the Experience was a part of. The decision was made to get out of the resort industry and just get back to movies and TV.

I always wondered why rich geeks don't think of cool ways to use their money like that. Steve Jobs seems like the only CEO to really latch on to the aesthetics and design of Trek and try to make it into real world devices with actual utility. There's lots of other involved in private space travel and engineering projects, but nothing just for fun. Lots of Trekkers and not enough Trekkies.

Although The price of Jordan is creating the first Trek theme park with oil revenues: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abdullah_II_of_Jordan#Interests

But, not sure if it's going to be a Route 66 attraction, or a dubai style money soaking.

Seriously though, could you imagine the Refit next to the larger D? Science confreres would be flocking to Vegas to hold their meetings in the main saucer shuttle bay, with the hanger door open for a great view out over the city. Ten forward and a redesigned bridge could both be large bars.

There are a lot of famous Star Trek fans out there - Olivia Wilde, Mila Kunis and yours truly - but none of us are as rich as King Abdullah of Jordan. The Middle Eastern monarch, who was once an extra in an episode of Star Trek: Voyager, has given the green light to a $1.5 billion Star Trek-inspired theme park that will boldly take Jordan where no Gulf state has gone before. While the theme park will not be powered by dilithium crystals, it will utilize green technology in order to lower its carbon footprint.

I used to have a cassette tape of the original series background music. The Vulcan fight music and the Doomsday Machine music were classics.
