I don't, at all. I've been a huge NIN fan since '89, seen him live about 30 times. He just keeps on getting better. I have always ignored the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, but that chick's voice is quite nice too. This just shows how deep a streak of talent that Reznor has.

eh, I like NIN, but I did not like this. how the hell do you make a 3 hour soundtrack for a 2.5 hour movie? That said, I do like everything else form that album so far.

It definitely works. Glad to see the rest of the world has learned from the mistakes of P-Diddy and "Come With Me."

Been a Zeppelin fan for years. Probably one of the better covers....

Too many notes.

And the guitar is all distorted.

I'm rather hit or miss when it comes to Zeppelin. Love some of their songs, hate others. Immigrant Song has always been high up on my 'love' list.
I'm also a huge NIN fan, so this is a pure win combo for me.

That's one of my least favorite Zeppelin tunes, but Trent did an awesome job with the cover...as always.

I liked it and I like David Fincher a LOT but I didn't care much for that video. Maybe it will look better on a large movie screen rather than a laptop.

Surprised the comments are positive in here. The first movie clip with the song drew a lot of negative comments in that Fark thread. I like the song remake although I'd really like a guide as to what in the hell was happening in that video.

FeedTheCollapse: eh, I like NIN, but I did not like this. how the hell do you make a 3 hour soundtrack for a 2.5 hour movie? That said, I do like everything else form that album so far.

From what I understand of the way Fintcher and Reznor worked on the Facebook Movie, Reznor recorded pieces and Fintcher cut them to fit around the film, sometimes re-cutting scenes to the music, sometimes cutting the music cues to the scenes. Which meant many of the pieces created for the film were much longer than what was in the movie.

That video lacked both kittens, vikings, and viking kittens. I am disappoint.

\Didn't like it much, but Immigrant Song isn't really all that great to begin with...

That's not very unusual. Most movies only use clips of the songs, an idea they must have stolen from VH1 "music" shows.

I figured as much, since this is how most soundtrack work is done, but it's just seems like a bit of overkill, I guess. Kind of an odd complaint, I guess, but 3 hours is a bit daunting.

This is a weak remake of the Immigrant Song. The best thing about it is the Fincher trailer that it is attached to. That trailer gives it all the emotional punch. That being said the Yeah Yeah Yeah's songs seem pretty good.

Watching that really makes you realize how a lot of Led Zeppelins lyrics were dreadful interpretations of mythology and fantasy stories.

Viking Kittens

I could probably watch/listen to these two versions over and over and over

2011-12-10 11:10:02 PM
I don't think it works because:

1) It's too fast. The original actually captured the feeling of "On we sweep with threshing oar", because it was measured and deliberate.
2) The musicianship is gone. The bass line in the "On we sweep" section is a scale, completely lost to the standard of today - some chords.
3) The emotion in Plant's voice conveyed the experience of the immigrant journey. None of that here.
4) The driving drums - this take sounds like Runnin' Up That Hill - if it were played too fast and too loud.

2011-12-10 11:19:26 PM
Meh. Zep version still captures more of a viking feel. See Ann, and Nancy do Battle of Evermore for a proper Zep cover.

2011-12-10 11:27:51 PM
Nice updated sound...perhaps I'm too old, but I wasn't terribly thrilled with the lady's vocalization on it. Still, I think it does recapture the mood of the original song/era setting for more modern times.

/Now to try and dig this earwurm out...

I think it works. It's better than what you're going to hear on the LedZep episode of Glee, anyway.

I have no problem with this. One of the better covers of a classic song I've heard.

2011-12-10 11:51:20 PM
Love it. The cover has an unsettling edge that the original lacked. (Not that the original needed it.)

The original song is fantastic. It is one of the greatest epic road trip songs ever. The type you play when you are in a classic American muscle car with a tank full of gas and the windows all down because that is your air conditioning heading to God knows where. You are just going. The cover version is what you play when you are stalking someone through the busy city streets and going in for a kill.

Would I rather listen to the original? Sure. But I think this version works for the movie. Reznor turned the song into an aural representation of the film.

The female vocal used to reflect the hard-edged female lead? Yes.
Land of ice and snow acknowledging that the setting is a key part of the story? Yes.
Over-tech of the remake tapping into the use of technology as a key tool for the heroine? Yes.
Does the song seem like a relentless quest in reflection of the movie? Yes.

Pfft, come on. You are doing it wrong. Everyone knows that industrial rock is creepy serial killer or chasing Eastern European spies through subways music. Classic rock is road trip music or hunting down ghosts and Demons music. Especially if your surname is Winchester.

This is one of my favorite songs being covered by one of my favorite musicians (and a chick I have no disrespect for) in a video created by one of my favorite directors. So naturally I thought it was freaking awesome. It made me want to roll up a fighter and go kill orcs.

Ever hear any of the live versions of the song by Zeppelin? They ALWAYS played it much faster than it is on the record; the one on How the West Was Won is at a farking gallop.

"The cover isn't at the same tempo as the original" is not a valid criticism of any song.

I think this is true. While it's Trent's spin on something, that something isn't going to be as good as what he comes up with on his own. I'm not saying it's bad. It's just not great or amazing.

2011-12-11 02:53:48 AM
That was awesome. I still don't have any interest in seeing the movie, but I'll definitely look for the soundtrack.
