The sad thing is that they really did say that.

"When the presiding officer brought the gavel down to end one session, he simultaneously began the next session," Koed says, "And in that split second it took the gavel to go down, Roosevelt appointed 193 people."

Catholic University law professor Victor Williams says President Obama should show similar audacity.

"He should not ignore the pro-forma sessions," Williams says. "He should explicitly, deliberately challenge them."

Fun stuff.

So, with all these extra work days we can expect congress to get a lot done then, right?

Right?

"Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid says it's likely the Senate will do the same."

/we all know it's different when liberals do it.

2011-12-11 08:48:22 AM
The people that aren't going to vote for Obama never would have in the first place, so he's not going to lose any votes there. Doing a recess appointment is only going to fire up his base (and possibly help millions of Americans since the positions are filled and work can be done).

Should just flip off Congress, put them in recess, and do the recess appointment.

Maybe they could follow Newt's example and go scrub the Congressional toilets. That would actually be something productive.

I think the Democrats did the same thing for a while during Bush's last 2 years when the Democrats regained control of the Senate. I think they did it at least one year during the summer.

He absolutely should do that. a republican would and never bat an eye.
they'd even brag about it and get cheers.
but Obama is not the leader the liberals need.
He's lost me.
I won't vote for a republican but if given a better alternative I'd take it in a heartbeat.
I wish Elizabeth Warren or someone like her was running. Feingold or Kucinich maybe.
Obama has turned out to be a pushover politically. Too much in bed with the same people as the GOP.
And as much as the GOP cry about him being a socialist they know he's cut from the same cloth pretty much.
The true powers that be aren't going to allow a true liberal with socialist leanings to get the office.

nowhere near to the extent that this congress is doing it. and only after Bush made several key recess appointments.

Obama has made like 18 and Bush made 171

And despite the Dems having a majority in the senate he's had twice as many judicial appointments blocked than Bush when the Dems had control of the Senate then.

Obama should definitely do the "split-second recess appointment" thing from the article. It's not as if Congress could get its ass in gear to do anything about it.

Yeah, but cut him some slack. He toils away, night and day pretending to run a small business, asking nothing in return but for Sarah Palin to show up at his door, put on a strap-on and a mask, and give him what for while he tearfully exclaims "MAKE ME FEEL GOOD, RONNIE!"

He's a very special person, in the "olympics you're not supposed to laugh at" special kind of way.

Was going by what he said. But 1600 threads in 6 years of Farking (his account was created in 2005) means 266 threads per year, or much less than one a day, and that includes comments posted to threads that are greenlit after they receive a goodly number of TF comments. This is just me, but I wouldn't consider this a "lot" of activity in Liter Land.

winterwhile: FW:FW:FW:FW;FW:FW:FW:FW: this is why 0bama NEEDS TO GO

Let me get this straight . . ..

We're going to be "gifted" with a health care plan we are FORCED to purchase and fined if we don't, which
purportedly covers at least TEN MILLION more people, without adding a single new doctor, but provides for

16,000 new IRS agents, written by a committee whose CHAIRMAN says he doesn't understand it, passed by a

Congress that didn't read it but EXEMPTED themselves from it, and signed by a Dumbo President who smokes, with funding
administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, for which we'll be TAXED for four years before any

benefits take effect, by a government which has already bankrupted SOCIAL SECURITY AND MEDICARE, all to be

overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that's broke!!!!!

'What the hell could possibly go wrong?'

Fixed (to look like the original chain mail winterwhile received this morning)

Phil Moskowitz: This one is a big deal to corporations, so it's a big deal to their congress muppets.

all I know is that the GOP seems absolutely terrified of Obama this year. My operating theory is that the Republicans are afraid that Obama might do something effective this year and it'll make his life easier on the campaign trail. So basically the GOP has to make our lives miserable BUT still be able to pin their actions on Obama.

2011-12-11 10:17:52 AM
Utah Republican Sen. Orrin Hatch says taking such a measure "would be a very unwise political thing to do."

Here's the thing, Orrin. Taking such a measure might piss off Republican voters, sure. But it would embolden liberals and Democrat voters, we'd actually be able to convince ourselves Obama has a spine and is willing to fight for some of this shiat rather than cave all the time. Hell, it might not even piss off Republican voters that much. The GOP is playing games with the recess, they don't get to be pissed when the Dems start playing games right back.

I think it would be an extremely wise political thing to do.

I sincerely doubt that any Obama appointment this unqualified would risk exposing her ignorance by providing any kind of actual service. her job is government bureaucracy and bamboozling.
