It's the nice and quiet ones you need to watch out for.

I still hold out hope that one day, I'll point out some loud dickhead coming a mile away.

Those who knew Ashley said he could be standoffish. He liked to run down the hallways and recently shaved his head, a neighbor said.

Mental illness of some sort?

When he wasn't acting crazy and randomly killing people, he was a swell guy.

"It's the quiet ones you gotta watch." Every time you see a story about a serial criminal on tv what do they do? They bring on the neighbor and the neighbor says, "weeeell, he was always very quiet" and someone in the room says, "It's the quiet ones you gotta watch". This sounds to me like a very dangerous assumption. I will bet you anything that while you're watching a quiet one a noisy one will FARKING KILL YOU! Suppose you're in a bar with two serial killers and one of the guys is sitting over in a corner, reading a book, not bothering anybody, while the other guy is standing up front, banging a machete on the bar and screaming, "I'LL KILL THE NEXT MOTHERFARKER WHO COMES IN HERE!" - WHO are you gonna watch? You're goddamn right. - RIP George Carlin

hmmm.I try to be nice to folks.
Many consider me anti-social because, well, i do not like very many humans.
That said, i tend to listen to music loud and call out tards, like one guy who came into my store last spring, saying the spring uprising "was the start of a new caliphate".
I asked him if he really paid any attention to the news, and he said he listened to limbaugh and beck, so yes, he was informed.
Needless to say, I almost got fired.

and dont tell me to frakking smile !

On Friday night, students popped in and out of the building visiting friends. Mandy Adams, a Radford grad student, said Ashley had recently shaved his head. Other than running down the hallways, he was quiet, she said.

"He would just run down the hallway - never walk, always run," said Adams, who was out on a rear fire escape with a glass of white wine and a cigarette to calm her nerves. "It's going to be really creepy when they come to take his stuff out of here."

Oh please. You're an addict and you probably look like a rough 42. Hey local newspapers, try to interview someone other than the eternal-freshman-15 skank living in slovenly quarters. I understand that they're typically the only ones hanging around student apartment buildings most of the time (no doubt seeking validation for their daddy issues and self-harming tendencies), but they never have anything useful to say.

As a not-very-talkative person who tries to be nice to everyone, am I at risk of being the next newsworthy shooter? I would like to know so I can off myself for the good of society, should the need arise.

Woo Hoo! Radford (my hometown) made the news!

In all seriousness, Thursday was a pretty scary day for me. My sister is a senior at VT and was prepping for exams in a building only about 100 feet from where the officer was killed.

This really confuses me:

"Virginia State Police said he walked up to officer Deriek W. Crouse after noon on Thursday and shot him to death as the patrolman sat in his unmarked cruiser during a traffic stop. Ashley was not involved in the stop and did not know the driver, who is cooperating with police, they said."

Took me like 10 minutes to figure out that it means the officer had pulled over someone ELSE at the time, who witnessed the shooting while sitting in his car waiting to get a ticket, and luckily wasnt also shot.

I wonder if all this animosity the OWSers and their supporters have for the police inspired this guy to go out and kill the first random cop he came across. Kinda like how Sarah Palin's cross-hairs inspired some psychopath to go on a killing spree.

FTFA: "A deputy sheriff on patrol noticed a man acting suspiciously in a parking lot about a half-mile from the shooting. The deputy drove up and down the rows of the sprawling Cage parking lot and lost sight of the man for a moment, then found Ashley shot to death on the pavement, a handgun nearby. No one saw him take his life and he wasn't carrying any ID."

Anyone else thinking the deputy sheriff took care of business? There were calls of 'random gunfire' around the same time...

What's the cops motivation for faking a suicide? No one would question shooting the kid. Maybe he doesn't want any paid leave.

Oh, yes. Definitely. That's all he talked about.

Oh, yes, definitely. That's all he talked about. I remember one day, I says, uh, "Stutts, why're you working so hard?" He says, "'Cause I'm saving up to buy a gun, so I can kill Buckwheat." (he shrugs his shoulders)

SAUL THE TAILOR:
John was a quiet boy, a kind of a loner. But real polite. He always stood still when I hemmed his cuffs. Nice kid.

Oh, yes, definitely. That's all he ever talked about. Why, just the other day, he comes in and he says, "Saul, make me a new suit. I'm going to kill Buckwheat and I want to look good on television.

I have to agree with the guesses of schizophrenia with an acute psychotic break. Sounds like he did several things in the last few days that were pretty spur-of-the-moment. He is the right age/demographic, etc.

I was on campus when all of this was going on, and since you had no idea of what was going on other than "Guns blazing, run and hide," it was really disturbing.
Made studying difficult as hell.

I am still really upset that they didn't block traffic onto/off campus. Trust me, there were plenty of cops to do that. But no, I drove right past where the guy had offed himself (?).
