We need a tag that is just a question mark, to be used for cricket and any other mysterious foreign rituals.

It looked like english but I didn't understand any of it.

Can someone translate, please?

2003-10-10 08:56:13 AM
that's strange..they've changed my headline...anyway, this is an amazing feat..to put it into perspective, 100 runs is a fantastic innings for a batsman..

2003-10-10 08:57:05 AM
Oh farking hell. The only thing more annoying than americans who complain they don't understand a single thing about cricket are the people who get pissed at them and say "der ur stupid".

And yes I am aware of the irony.

Cricket "news"?

*ducks*

Okay you Wanks (er, Yanks)...

This is Test Cricket. A game, similar to baseball, that lasts 5 days. Yeah, 5 DAYS. They start in the morning and break for lunch and afternoon tea. And now it's all over, I can tell you Hayden hit 380 runs. It's a lot. A whole shiatload.

We (the rest of the world) KNOW you don't care, but respect it on this level: someone just set a world record in a sport that's played in many countries. Liken it to someone rushing for 700 yards in a single football (gridiron) game. Except only America plays gridiron. This guy just completely destroyed the Zimbabwe bowlers (ie, in baseball, pitchers).

I'm a Yank living in Kiwi land. A good translator for both sides. Any other questions?

2003-10-10 08:59:48 AM
I can honestly say that I'm glad I don't know anything about cricket.

2003-10-10 09:00:38 AM
380 runs? Where did they play, Coors Field?

2003-10-10 09:03:03 AM
Five days? What, is cricket like tantric baseball?

I'm a Yank living in Kiwi land.

Traitor, I'm calling up Rumsfeld and Ridge so we can remove you as a threat to America.

/actually does understand cricket

2003-10-10 09:04:19 AM
What is an "innings"? I understand it differs from baseball in that each team bats in its own "innings," as opposed to both teams batting constituting an inning, but how does the cricket innings end for a side?

2003-10-10 09:06:40 AM
Outstanding performance, albeit against a rather shiate side like Zimbabwe. But that's not Hayden's fault.

An American friend of mine once described Cricket as the "communist" version of Baseball. Oh ho ho, you wacky Americans.

2003-10-10 09:08:47 AM
It's no more confusing than baseball.

I don't understand why it's such a big ordeal that americans "don't get it". Who cares, the rest of the world understand it. :P

This guy basically played the part of a batter in baseball, but instead of hitting some measly home run, he hit a whole shiatload of home-run equivalents, and batted for hours on end instead of just running around a diamond once. ;)

100 is considered a big score that you've really got to work your ass off for. 380 is a phenomenal effort.

2003-10-10 09:11:21 AM
Innings ends when all players on that team are out.

2003-10-10 09:12:33 AM
Yeah well the Red Sox scored 10 runs without making an out against the Marlins this year. So there!

2003-10-10 09:15:26 AM
Cricket:

You have two sides, one out in the field and one in. Each man that's in the side that's in goes out, and when he's out he comes in and the next man goes in until he's out. When they are all out, the side that's out comes in and the side thats been in goes out and tries to get those coming in, out. Sometimes you get men still in and not out.

When a man goes out to go in, the men who are out try to get him out, and when he is out he goes in and the next man in goes out and goes in. There are two men called umpires who stay all out all the time and they decide when the men who are in are out. When both sides have been in and all the men have been out, and both sides have been out twice after all the men have been in, including those who are not out, that is the end of the game!

High score records against Zimbabwe don't count

ClothedSexualTouching: Very funny. And true. And you just confused the FARK out of a lot of people.

I won't try to explain too much, but here's the basics of cricket:

Try and go with the baseball analogy. But instead of running around in a circle to 1st, 2nd, 3rd and home, you just run back and forth between home and 1st.

You always have to have a "man on base." One guy is always batting, and one guy is always over at the other end. To score a run you must BOTH safely get from where you are currently standing to where the other guy is standing. The credit for the run goes to the guy who hit the ball (ie, Hayden).

An innings constitutes 10 wickets, or outs. Each team has 11 players total, and since you have to always have two guys running, the most "outs" you can have are 10. Once you're out, you're out for good (for that innings).

Scoring a century (100 runs) is a big deal. A double century is bloody next to impossible. 380 is unfarkingbelievable. Even if it is against a shiat team like Zimbabwe, 380 is crazy. Well, obviously - it's a world record.

But anyway, I know, I know - the Americans don't care. Especially while the ALCS and NLCS are going on, hockey is just starting, and football is hitting mid-season. Fair enough. But it was bloody brilliant to watch.

It's an amazing record, and you have to have a bit of luck and a TON of skill to do it.

But my question is, YOU WATCHED IT? ALL OF IT? =|8-0

farking hell that was something special. I was supposed to be working but i couldn't take my eyes off the farking tv all day. The best thing was that i reckon he could of batted forever if he didn't say 'I've got the record, so fark it - i'll just go for it' and start smacking it around without a care.

Hayden you farking ledgend!

I wonder how Mark Taylor's feeling. I hear he declared when he was tied with Bradman...was that because he felt he wasn't worthy of beating him? I bet he has some regrets...

Andy was quick to sticks with brim on the 4th go through. I didnt believe he had a chance to capture queens like Rod in the 'muggin. All the power boys they have in railyard couldnt make up the "stolen" points either. funny though, i always fancied the preps for threat round about the retry spare.
hell, even i could see that.

I read a quote from Tubby that he would've broken Bradman's record on the last ball of his innings if not for a good bit of fielding from Ijaz Ahmed. He declared overnight to try to get a result for the team.

So are they like the NCAA champs? How can you have only one team?
