I read an article once about building a bat house for your back yard, but I couldn't see anything about it that was really different from a bird house. I'd love to have bats living around me eating up all the pest bugs.

All the bat houses I've put up in my yard are basically a bird house but instead of a hole in the side, the entrance is at the base with just a slit opening.

Aww...

Sadly our bats in PA (and all along the coast) are being devastated by white nose syndrome. That hasn't stopped them from getting into our attic though. When I was a kid we would hit them with tennis rackets, but I just net them and take them outside now. I'm sure they go right back, but whatever.

No bottom at all. One to five (or more) chambers approximately 3/4" wide. The design you mention with a slit entrance was obsolete 20 years ago. Tons of good bat houses available through Bat Conservation International.

As to the star of the video Lil' drac. Well all I can say is Aww...!

I loved that vid. As soon as I can, we are going to start helping out with a flying fox rescue service, so that vid was also educational for me. Though flying foxes are much bigger

Him rocking himself to sleep was probably the most "AWWW" inspiring thing I've seen in a year. That was amazing. What a little cutie- I hope he thrives.
