The scary thing about all this is that this shows Putin isn't going to give up power willingly. I think he wants to at least have the appearance of being elected democratically, but if it appears that he cannot win even a rigged election, which it looks like he can't, his opponents will commit suicide by shooting themselves in the back of the head.
