Looks like the same crap on everyone else's list. Now I get to use my horrible "Bon Iver is Wheatus for hipsters" quip.

What's surprising about it? I've always thought that NPR's "All Songs Considered" to be a pretty good listen.

I like their usual music reviews so I too am confused by the surprisingly bit.

Bah.
NPR telling the record buying public what's best is an exercise in pretentiousness.

It's a list for people who don't trust their own opinions.

I somehow knew that Wilco was going to be on this list before I even looked.

//NPR has such a hard-on for Wilco

I'm shocked that I've actually heard seven of those albums. I didn't care for any of them. My favorites this year were from Lykke Li and John Legend & The Roots. (I haven't heard the Roots album on the list).

I say Bon Iver is Christopher Cross for hipsters.

What does that statement even mean? What do Bon Iver and Christopher Cross have in common besides being easy listening and self-titled?

/for the record, I like both

Twin 40s: What does that statement even mean? What do Bon Iver and Christopher Cross have in common besides being easy listening and self-titled?

It's easy listening. That's what they have in common. When hipsters want some easy listening, they listen to Bon Iver.

Okay, fair enough. I don't really like the way "easy listening" is seemingly used as a mark against it, when that's clearly what it's going for.

What's surprising is The King Is Dead didn't make the list.

No love for Daft Punks TRON: Legacy?

Probably the best score to come out in the last 5 years, and really worked well with the movie to boot.

While I agree about people not trusting their own opinions, who said anything about record 'buying?' This is a list for an age where music is expendable. They could release a list like this every month and it would be no more or less relevant. This is a 'flavor of the moment' type deal. Pay attention at your own risk.

Yeah, and then someone said Peter Cetera, but we've got to keep this thing moving forward or it'll get stale.

I am not sure NPR proper is the best source for local music. Some of the local stations are, I am looking at KCMP 89.3 The Current in St Paul, KEXP in Seattle, KCRW in LA/Santa Monica and WUMB in Boston.

I bought the Alabama Shakes EP a couple days ago, and although it's only four songs long-IT IS FANTASTIC!

Hmm. Their top 25 metal list has some good stuff on it, but I don't understand why they made a best-of list that combined metal with "outer sound" - it doesn't strike me as a particularly obvious mix.

Just listened to that song in the article. Holy crap, I really want to hear more from this band.

Can't wait until they release an album's worth of material.

Worse yet, about 80% of the stuff I've heard the NPR dorks ooh-ing and ahhh-ing over sucked like a hoover. They really, really have no ears.

Most of that stuff on the list didn't do much for me, but I'm an eat-sleep-breathe music sort of person. I've heard so much great and innovative music over the years it's tough for me to find something that is unique, interesting, and listenable.

I do like Wilco & The Mountain Goats were ok.

herp-derp, yeah a little behind on movies. But to be fair it was released Dec 17th, 2010.

If this article was done last year, the album wouldn't even be out yet being the 13th and all. Actually, it probably would have been released today, with the movie on thurs/fri. Thus not captured by last years NPR fav of 2010.

/Yeah, lucky for me
//Kinda like time travel
