True, if it had been an import, there'd be a body count.

Fords made in Mexico. And they tell us to buy American?

2011-12-10 11:25:20 AM
Ford = Junk.

Nice to see FORD still lives up to its acronym

Don't buy American made imports, buy Mexican made domestics!

Conservaderps are dusappointed it wasn't a GM or Chrysler, they have all of those government bailout jokes to recycle.

I especially like the ones that think quality control at an automotive factory tells you everything about the government's ability to reform health insurance.

/if you're a libertarian, are you outraged at government auto recalls?

No, the wheels may not fall off, but they might.

the "Daily Mail" is telling us this?

Also, at the car show recently, a Ford rep tried to sell me on their stuff. I declined, saying sorry, my experience with Ford in the past was so outrageously bad that I can't ever consider another one ever, and besides, Ford doesn't make a family van.

"Well, hopefully you'll at least buy one made in America!" said the rep.

"Um. I think the Dodge/Chrysler van is made in Ontario..." sez me. (I look it up. Yes, the only "domestic" van is Canadian) I thought, but didn't follow up with 'aren't all Fords basically Mazdas built in Mexico now'.

TFA: describes the problem from the stamping plant in ... Mexico.

No auto manufacturer as far as I know makes their own parts any more. It will cost someone, but it will be the manufacturer of those parts and not Ford.

2011-12-11 08:29:02 AM
Well, at least they didn't catch fire on minor rear impact! That's huge progress, get off Ford's back!

/and a sad commentary on the domestic car industry

When did Canada leave [North] America?

While calling it "American" does technically include Mexico and Canada, I don't see why someone would ever use that definition in a positive light. It's nothing more than a feel-good technicality that allows people to say "See, we didn't lie!" while offering absolutely none of the positive benefits one would gain from having it made in the states.

"Made in America" hasn't been synonymous with "good" in decades. That doesn't mean there's not good stuff made in the US-- but there's terrible stuff as well, and it's all over the board.

It depends on a lot more on the manufacturer than the workers in any given country, in my experience. If the company knows what it's doing, the products will ultimately turn out well (once they work out the bugs in a new plant and train the workers up).
