As teenagers we used to drink in abandoned Titan Missile silos. They are f*cking cool. I would kill to own one.

Murder may not be necessary. ^

And we were talking about this site years and years ago on Fark, before there was even a TF, to all kick in and buy as a timeshare Farkistan.

wait actually the silos themselves were not imploded, they were still there, half inch of water at the bottom and some dead birds.

The worst part of living in one of those silos is having to press that damned button every 108 minutes.

That's cool and all, but to the right : NSFW pics of coed topless pulp fiction somethingrather (new window)

Whatever happened to the one that had been converted into a swanky LSD lab or some such back, I think, in the late 90's?

At least the cops can't just kick in your front door.

/waits for law which prohibits doors that can't be kicked in.

The problem is, the guys that fix up these sites have no sense of style. If only Frank Lloyd Wright was still alive.....

Sure......until you bring that special someone down.....

"Hey! Wanna see my missile?"

Then its a kick in the nads amd two weeks of ice packs.

Id hate to think my home would be first wave in a nuclear attack because Putin didnt think it was worth the extra money to update the missle silo list they put together 30 years ago.

I'm getting a chubby thinking about the hundreds of young girls I could imprison house in that silo.

Which war did you say this cold missile silo is from, Subby?

Overall, it took Gibbons and Francisco 20 years to finish the project as the listing just went live earlier this year.

Sounds like a contractor I know. He's nothing if not slow

I knew the american housing market was under water but this takes the problem to new depths.

Why did the lyrics "you like monkeys, you like ponies" suddenly ring in my ears? Does it come with wolves? Are they an option?

Is it just me, or is it a really bad idea to have one of these if a nuclear war did break out?

You know, just in case your new home was either part of an old target list, or was kept on the target list just in case the real estate listing was thought to be a bluff?

2011-12-10 08:17:08 AM
If nuclear war does break out you would want to be one of the first taken out, unless you like starvation, lawlessness, cancer and no medical care. Enjoy your survival.

Umm... actually, as long as you're in the bunker portion of it, you've actually got a pretty good chance of survival.

Still don't know if I'd want to try and scratch through a nuclear holocaust, but that's a whole separate issue.

2011-12-10 08:35:26 AM
If I recall correctly there was a movie with the old guy from 60 minutes (I think) where they show military personnel just running away from the silos because they knew they were useless as cover in a direct hit.

Too lazy to look it up, but I do wonder if that's true. Doubt there's any way to find out for sure.

if I had mad lottery winner kind of money, I'd buy that place in a new york minute.

2011-12-10 08:45:19 AM
The big problem with all these sites is that they are known. Whatever disaster happens, war, zombie attack, revolution etc everyone in the area is going to know where you are and that you have supplies. Be prepared for lots of people trying to get in using dynamite etc.

/Lesson One. Do not be seen.

just another farking repeat

2011-12-10 09:03:18 AM
Tons of those places dot the American Midwest, especially around Kansas City and central Missouri. I hope to buy one or see my parents retire to one some day. It'd be so cool to live in or visit. They're surprisingly cheap, too.

2011-12-10 09:31:14 AM
Jesus friggin' Christ! I keep seeing this damn thing "for sale" over and over for the past twenty years. haven't they unloaded this thing onto anyone yet???

That's not a lair.

This is a lair.

xxdangerbobxx: Have you ever read what you are linking to? Because, except they kind of didn't.

That's why I said "kind of", as in calling in question the idea that working in a bunker makes one impervious to the law. (And yes, before you get all pedantic, I know they weren't actually working there either.)

2011-12-10 09:43:56 AM
I'd say "Again?" seeing as how fark has talked about others doing the same thing in years past, but this is too cool to be sarcastic.

2011-12-10 09:50:08 AM
Why must I be cursed with a poor job?!?
The machine god demands a proper lair.

2011-12-10 09:56:10 AM
That's right down the road from me. I have heard that at least one other one has been a very profitable grow-op.

Interest rates are low. It's a good time to buy, if you can swing it.

That thing has been on the market for over a decade (talk about days on market).
A few people have inspected it and found it needs work.

This. It was listed for $4.8M IIRC dropped to $780K. The silo portion is still untouched.

Talk about "money pit"...

There was a scene like that in The Day After.
