This is more of what I meant to do. You know...never enough time.

Sgt. Gibbons on leave from the war.

April 7, 1944. He remembers clearly 15 years ago to this day. After his mother took his picture riding his toy car, she took him to the hospital where he received the life-changing eye surgery. He grew to be captain of the baseball team, an expert marksman as a hunter, a first-rate race car driver. All the things that require 20-20 vision. It was the best thing that ever happened to him. But then the war came and now half his buddies are buried in North Africa and Italy. He has shrapnel in his leg, a wound that was severe enough to be very painful, but not severe enough to keep him out of the war that will surely kill him soon. Now the memory of that day is coming back as he realized his mother took the picture because of the possibility of the surgery killing him. And now, 15 years later, it will, as he would never have been drafted if his eyesight hadn't been corrected. Putz.
