What? No UT-Austin?

MassArt should be #1 and it's not even close. The only public art school in the country.

I prefer their earlier lists.

Well done.

UCLA but not USC? Berkeley being included for its hippy-dippy downtown? biatch, please.

I wish the whole hipster thing would play out already. Can we go back to Grunge?

2011-12-09 11:47:54 PM
There's an 11th college that should've made the list. I'd name it, but it's so obscure.

List fails without Reed.

You've probably never heard of it, though.

Indolent: What? No UT-Austin?

It's more hipstery to be on the East or West coast apparently.

Considering Minneapolis is the most hipster city in the country, where is the University of Minnesota? I would also accept Macalester or Augsburg but not Bethel.

Thank God Charlottesville has an altogether different kind of douchbag

Berkeley? Hipster? You know how I know you only drove by once but didn't get out of the car or talk to students?

2011-12-09 11:55:31 PM
ucla and berkeley are the least hipster. they should include every college in brooklyn, ny and call it a day.

I'm kinda surprised W&M, my alma mater, didn't appear. My last room-mate was a hipster, and he killed himself.

Real top 10 hipster lists go to 11.
Or 9, to be ironic.

TFA: A: 9) Carnegie Mellon -- Pittsburgh, PA: Think of it as a non-conformist liberal arts program...

I think they might have just dived by zero there...

The first time I was hearing about hipsters and mention of Williamsburg, I was wondering how the Tribe got that far out of hand, and why people on Fark were so concerned.

I started my own micro-university and print my own books. I can't go back to that commercial schooling now.

My college campus was so hip you couldn't see it for all the irony.

This list is pretty much useless without Reed on it. Or Evergreen, for that matter.

Pffft. I wrote my books by hand, and had them transcribed to digital and recorded back to vinyl.

Yeah. Books on vinyl.

Let me sum this up: east of the Mississippi Hudson or California.

No Oberlin. No Reed.

And as for UT-Austin: it takes 4 years of a liberal education to get Texans to the level of Neanderthal. Though GEICO's made them hip.

Yale and most of its students are utter pieces of shiat. They constantly grieve the city of New Haven for giving the school a bad rep, yet tailgating on school property, populated by mostly Yale students ends in a woman being run over by a U-Haul. They recently petitioned for Toad's to be closed down, which is a farking LEGENDARY bar that has hosted such bands as The Rolling Stones. They also started an "Occupy 'Occupy New Haven." ' They said they were going to go around mocking Occupy New Haven and spraying homeless people with febreze. Fark Yale and everyone that goes there. That school is a stain on Connecticut, New haven, and the ivy league.

Well, the Tribe did get pretty far out of hand. The goths and other people with good cigarettes disappeared, leaving the hipsters and Asian students with crappy light cigarettes and American Spirits. Dog Collar never reappeared, which was disappointing. And my last room-mate did wear incredibly tight pants.

For a reason I don't fully understand I'm relieved my school wasn't on that list. Like it matters.

1. New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music

Because they have a Charlie Parker Ensemble.

:(

I've gone to a (now) "hipster college".

/flunked out
//does that make me more or less hipster?

U of MN has too many non-hipsters to be a hipster school.
Macalester College - now that's worthy of being on the list. Macalester: where the East Coast students who couldn't get into any East Coast schools go!

2011-12-10 12:23:34 AM
There's a pretty strong hipster contingent at VCU mostly due to the art program. No way in hell is Georgetown (or Yale for that matter) more hipster than VCU.

Phew, good thing I didn't go to NYU. No idea why I never even considered applying and I'm from NYC. I thought about Columbia enough to decide I wasn't going to consider it but NYC never even crossed my mind.

Wow, this thread could become dangerous. Combining hipsters with the possible discussion of student loans on Fark and we could easily break the internets.

I've lived next to Carnegie Mellon for nearly a decade and was quite surprised to learn that it's a "Top 10" hipster school. If there are hipsters there, then it's either a small population, or it's well-hidden.
