And Pat Shurmur, the genius that he is, puts Colt McCoy, who was basically wandering around like the kid from the "David After Dentist" video, back in the game after one play.

CavalierEternal: And Pat Shurmur, the genius that he is, puts Colt McCoy, who was basically wandering around like the kid from the "David After Dentist" video, back in the game after one play.

That, to me, is more disturbing than Harrison's behavior, and the fact that the league will do nothing about it will speak volumes to the lip service they're giving the very real concussion issue.

Harrison: "He was a runner. He lowered his eyes."
NFL: "First of all, he threw the ball before you hit him. Second, you can't go helmet-to-helmet, doesn't matter what position he plays."
Harrison: "HE WAS A RUNNER!"

How many goddamn times do Harrison and Goodell have to have this conversation before he gets suspended? Clearly, fifty thousand dollar fines aren't discouraging him from trying to tackle players' faces with his head, so what more will it take?

He's a thug, pure and simple. I can't believe he's been allowed to skate this long without a suspension. I also can't believe Shurmur did not say anything about Harrison today except a lame, "I've got strong feelings; I'm not going to share them."

McCoy: *stumbles onto the turf*
Shurmur: "Look he wants back on the field!"
McCoy: "I sure hope the Browns don't draft me."

Pat Shurmur, as has been the case with every Browns coach hired since 1999 (with the exception of maybe Butch Davis), has no fire under him. Guys like Bill Cowher, Jim Mora, when they were pissed, you knew it. Shurmur? Another goddamn Droopy Dog on the sideline.

Perhaps if coaches taught these functional retards how to properly tackle instead of running full out into a guy like a battering ram you wouldn't have so many dangerous hits like this. I'd love to see these guys try to play two non-stop 40 minute halves of Rugby.

How can you expect him to learn from something? Every time he does it he resets his brain and forgets about what happened. Maybe if he could stop taking helmet-to-helmet hits he'd remember.

Guys that insist on using their helmets should be limited to leather helmets.

I agree, Harrison should be disciplined. Helmet to helmet hits should be disciplined across the board.

By the way, Chris Gocung hit Rashard Mendenhall with a helmet to helmet hit during the Browns' goal line stand. In-Game replays shown seconds after the play confirm the contact. Would someone please let me know when he is suspended or otherwise disciplined? I'll wait here, but I won't hold my breath.

Where are all the Steelers fans on this one?

2011-12-09 11:55:06 PM
FTFA:If the Steelers are going to try and protect their player by speaking out against the penalties, shouldn't the Browns protect their players by asking the league for a suspension?

Two things:

1) I haven't seen the Steelers defending the hit at all, nor have I seen them complaining about how the league "has it in for them" after the game last night. If they do they're wrong, this time it's indefensible.

2) The Browns shouldn't have to ask for anything, Goodell should punish him because it's the right thing to do.

I've said in the past that Harrison was unjustly punished for a few of his hits. I still think he probably was. I also think that he didn't hit McCoy like that with the specific intent of hurting him. Truthfully, I think he's such a stupid man that he doesn't have the capacity to decide on the fly to intentionally hurt someone, he's just totally oblivious. That he keeps doing it is evidence of that, someone with any sense would have realized that hitting someone like he hit McCoy is guaranteed to draw a fine and/or suspension and he did it anyway.

This time he should be suspended. One game, maybe two. Suh got two games for what he did, so I'd say that sets the top end for the duration of the suspension. Perhaps he might figure it out after sitting for a few games, though I have my doubts.

This one is here. And I am disgusted with what James Harrison did. I guess he couldn't pull up after McCoy threw the ball, but that is not a reason to hit him like he did. I agree with "sit him the rest of the season".

2011-12-10 12:10:28 AM
Harrison won't get suspended, because this Thursday night game wasn't on Thanksgiving, and by the 4th quarter the only people watching were steelers fans and delusional browns fans that still thought they could actually score a td.

Seneca Wallace threw one pass. McCoy threw a ball that should have been contested, but Massaquoi just decided to say "fark it" almost as bad as Bowe and didn't even bother trying to bat at the ball, catch it or, hell, tackle the defend and take the penalty and not the INT.

Here. That hit, yes, fine him. Some of the others, no. What's a defender supposed to do if the ball carrier lowers his head at the same time?

Bigger issue-Browns, how can you be this bad for this long? They still look like an expansion team. You have 3rd and goal on the 1 foot line and you (shockingly) give the ball to Hillis, then kick a field goal? Lots of friends who are Browns fans. They deserve better.

On the 2st: Harrsison did not attack a player after the whistle AND did not do it on Thanksgiving when Mothers and Grandmothers watch. The NFL dose NOT want players doing bad things on Thanksgiving since Mothers and Grandmothers are watching.

If Mothers and Grandmothers see that on Thanksgiving, Sons and Grandsons won't be playing Football now will they?

Yeah that I dont understand, sure Suh's move was a douchebag move but fine him $200K-$500K for being a moron, then make him play a few games for free to make him learn not to be a douchebag.

I am positive that Harrison will have to kill someone on the field before he ever gets suspended, how he doesnt realize this would be a penalty since he lowered his helmet to drive it into him is farking insane, even if it wasnt helmet to helmet I am still pretty sure spearing a player with your helmet is a foul.

netweavr: NFL: "First of all, he threw the ball before you hit him. Second, you can't go helmet-to-helmet, doesn't matter what position he plays."

interesting, cause that exact opposite logic was applied on the "not illegal" hit against mendenhall when he was helmet-to-helmeted earlier in the game. in fact, the announcer's exact words were "runners are not protected species in this league"

wonder wherever he got that idea from.

hit was legal, the players and people in cleveland(and most of the people in this thread) are all nancies, except mccoy.

but then, i like real football, the kind played by Jack Ham and Ronnie Lott and Lawrence Taylor and Jack Tatum, not this dungeons and dragons nonsense everyone on the interwebs wants to see so they can "score points! yay!" man up and cheer for a REAL team, win or lose, not your fantasy team.

if James Harrison played for the browns, then people would ignore his comments when he says he wants to knock people out. like the way people are completely ignoring the following quote from the guy who hit ben's leg(legally, like Harrison his Cribbs, massaquoi, McCoy and that fat sweatpants wearing fan)

"I came from the backside,'' said Paxson. "I know he likes to hold onto the ball. I knew he didn't see me get a pretty good hit on him. I know Schaefering got him in the front and I got him from the back. Ben's a great athlete. I really wouldn't mind if he was out for the game. Just this game."

Not trolling. Thats what I think. Anyway I thing Suh shoud have been only fined and not suspend.

Just as soon have McCoy's dad (and about every other NFL player's dad) put a sock in it -- yeah, even you Archie... unless you're just weighing in as ex-player smart guy. At the same time, fines don't seem to working with Harrison, so a suspension doesn't seem unreasonable. Maybe that would at least get the rest of his team's attention.

The difference is that this hit was part of a football play, and an attempt to make a tackle, albeit a bad form tackle aiming too high. Suh's actions were after the play was over and were not part of a "football action"
The NFL has rarely given out multiple game suspensions for an on the field action. In fact, the only three I can think of are Suh, Haynesworth (5 games) and Charles Martin (first 2 game suspension for on the field play, ever), although I'm guessing there were some in the 20 years between Martin and Haynesworth.

This is the big issue, I think. It's not that he hit him, I doubt Harrison could have stopped himself before contact. It's the way he hit him. McCoy released the ball and Harrison just leveled him. For farks sake man, just push the guy over. He'll still get knocked on his ass, and you probably won't get a penalty out of it, much less a fine.

WTF Indeed: I'd love to see these guys try to play two non-stop 40 minute halves of Rugby.

Most of the Rugby players would be injured beyond belief, and the game would be called within 20 minutes.

American football players are the reason Rugby basically left the Olympic Games, and that happened LOOOONG before these guys became as big as they are today. The All-Blacks would be dwarves compared to NFL guys.
