Okay, kinda had to laugh. It reminds me of a gadget in "Dr. Slump" (another comic by the guy who invented "Dragon Ball," full of puns and gag humor like "Dragon Ball" was at the beginning when it was funny, only more of it). It was a helicopter powered by a giant can of pop, so there was just a big hole in the back, you shook up the giant can, put it in, pull the tab, and go.

Stupid? Heck yeah. But funny...

Needs a 2nd stage booster. And more cowbell.

Hmm,... I suspect that this calls for some sort of Electronic Mentos Injection system then. We can grind up the Mentos into powder and then inject that plus a mix of Diet Coke into a cylinder of some sort using valves. The resulting expansion then pushes a piston which turns a crankshaft,...

It would be kinda awesome, just for the pure lunacy.

buckler: Also looks like the thing threw a bunch of rods out of the exhaust system, which I would guess were another component of the Mentos release mechanism.

I think the car actually pushed those rods out like plungers against the wall behind the car, rather than any reactive force of the liquid jets providing thrust.

If they wanted jet thrust, they wouldn't have wasted precious expansion volume using such long tubes and would have built a nozzle. Also would have found a way to eject actual liquid instead of just foam (dip tube into bottle?) for greater momentum.
