Wow. Just...wow.

Reject the two-state solution if you will, but that is an incredibly ignorant and dangerous thing to say.

Can you see this asshole conducting diplomacy?

If the US were Israel and the Palestinians were native Americans, how many New Yorkers would walk away from their properties in the name of peace? After all, they gave away a land to us (like the Arab coalition countries did in the 1940's with the expectation of driving the Israelis into the Mediterranean Sea. Oops! The Israelis kicked their rears and carved out a nice nation. Now the losers are wanting it back.

So when we, the US, give all the assets we stole from the natives back, then we can preach to Israel that this is a good idea.

You know who else thought a Semitic people weren't really people?

That's like claiming that black South Africans are an invented people while the Afrikaners are the rightful inhabitants of the land.

Blatant Israel whoring, exactly what we need more of. Thanks Newt. So, how exactly are they an invented people when they lived in what is now Israel for centuries?

That's a highly tenuous analogy. And again, not to sound like a girl, it's not necessarily what Gingrich said but how he said it. And, I'm sorry, if he really believes the Palestinians are "invented" he needs to turn in his history degrees.

This is just further evidence of either:

1) He's really not running. He's energizing the base in light of a dismal slate of candidates.
2) His overwhelming megalomania makes him believe he can say whatever he wants without consequences.

That's a special kind of stupid right there.

Diogenes: That's a highly tenuous analogy.

It's not highly tenuous. It's just f*cking terrible and demonstrates extreme ignorance about history, both Middle Eastern and American.

The creation of Israel bears no resemblance whatsoever to the creation of the United States.

The shocking thing here is that someone running for president spoke the truth. Newt's a historian. He knows how these Arabs from Egypt, Jordan, etc became known as "Palestinians", even if many others do not.

Of course, Newt is also a politician, so he knows that this is a very undiplomatic thing to say. Not sure if that really matters though.

It's actually really similar to how Jews from Europe, the USSR, and North America came to the Middle East to become Israelis.

Not if he's not in it to win it, as I said.

And yes, it is true that the Palestinians are unwanted by many of the neighboring states. And the pisser is when those same states use the Palestinians as their proxy in their arguments with Israel. But is an Israeli any less an invented person than a Palestinian by the same standards? Nomadic, unwanted, and desiring of a land that's part of their history and culture.

I don't think they have any right to be recognized as a nation until they are willing to recognize Israel as a nation.

It's nothing like that. Read a history book. Jeezus.

The pretend that these arabs from several neighboring states showed up to create a "Palestinian state" is absurd. I mean, you're not even trying.

Do you know if there was ever a Jewish state on this land in history? We know that there was never a state formed by the made up Pals. That's the difference. There have always been arabs in the neighborhood though. No one is denying that. No one called them "Palestinians" until a certain agenda started and that's what Newt is talking about when he says they were "invented".

PLO does, or did, the majority Hamas does not.

The notion that there was absolutely nobody living in Israel before 1947 is just absurd. I mean, you're not even trying.

The Israeli state is invented. All states are artificial constructions. Not the people. An Arab Israeli by any other name....

You know, yesterday I would have said it was impossible for anyone to argue that Palestine doesn't exist because it's simply too stupid of a position for even a Republican to take, but this thread is really proving me wrong.

I think they spray something onto the students during orientation in McAllister that makes them want to bang robots, because I do too.

Israelis are the only Semitic people. That's why "anti-Semite" only refers to "anti-Jew".

From conservapedia (so you know it's trustworthy):

The breakup of the Ottoman Empire after their defeat in World War I saw the region come under the control of Great Britain. While there was always a Jewish remnant who never left, Jewish re-emigration to the area increased under the tolerant eyes of the British. This increased after the atrocities of World War II and the areas were given their independence with Palestine being divided into separate Jewish and Arab nations, the Jewish nation being called Israel and the Arab Palestine.

That's a false analogy. We committed genocide on the Indians fair and square. A dead man makes no claims.

"Remember, there was no Palestine as a state. It was part of the Ottoman Empire. We have invented the Palestinian people, who are in fact Arabs and are historically part of the Arab people, and they had the chance to go many places."

It's like.. Derpception.
