Hell a fella could have a pretty good weekend in Vegas with all that stuff....

In other news I am doubled over in laughter that this sat where it was for years, maybe decades, and suddenly the police shut down traffic and call the airport.

The Alameda County Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad responded to the scene and determined the bomb was authentic but inert. They took custody of the bomb.

Why'd they take the bomb, if it's inert?

They're going to go store it next to a diesel tank on their bombing range where it will be rediscovered in another 70 years by the Federation

Maybe so this exact same thing doesn't happen again?

Who will close down the hyperlane and notify the jump port so they can keep it in their atrium.

They were probably going to melt it down as scrap.

If that thing went off near a Raiders home game, recidivism rates for the California penal system would plunge by at least half.

Someone always has to ruin a perfectly good plan.

Question for the grammar SS, would one use "lb" here to describe the weight of the bomb? Or would it be "lbs", because there are more than one pound (lb)?

Dammit, so close to finally taking out Oakland.

Well, before they knew it was inert, that seems like a reasonable thing to do before you start to mess with it. I'm sure the Germans close off any nearby streets before they take care of an unexploded bomb they find.

Sounds to me like the community would have been just as safe if they had done nothing.

no you dipsh*ts because what's stopping some drunken/hooligans finding it and pumping it full of gasoline/fireworks and stuffing a fuse into the hole they drilled.

/people could rave in that tank if it's big enough

I'm pretty sure it would be "a 700 pound bomb" or "700 pounds of bomb", but not "a 700 pounds bomb."

I don't think diesel is that big of a risk. You can pour diesel on fires to put them out.

By inert it could have been ready for a fuse and put into use. It could mean that it was purchased in a surplus auction - just an empty shell no explosive inside no fuse. Why is it I'm never the one to find stuff like this.

tomerson: An inert bomb is the same as a Popsicle. Where is the news?

They only found out it was inert after it became news, silly person.

Granted, it would have been bigger and better news if it had been a live bomb, and they found it just a little too late, but still.

A shocking discovery? Because discovering it after all of this time suddenly makes the bomb more likely to explode in the room? What? The article makes me imagine a cartoony farce of someone overreacting: "A shocking discovery! Visions worthy of a Michael Bay film flashed before his eyes as he struggled to maintain consciousness! As if uncovering an ancient evil, the dust swirled around the bomb indicating 'it's certainly gonna BLOW UP if he spoke above a certain decibel level! Woe to those who take bombs lightly--for the bomb can smell fear!"

I know they have to watch it if they're going to go dorking around with it, but I still laughed.

Yes, don't you ever watch movies? Just like you can walk around in a room with a bomb, clump up and down the stairs, shout and throw things; but as soon as you FIND the bomb, you have to tiptoe, whisper, and touch the bomb with extreme delicacy because even a fleck of dust could now set it off! Nevermind that moments before, a herd of elephants trampled the house to smithereens; NOW you have to move very softly!
