Wow, I never understood the hatred for Scrappy Doo before having only seen him in small doses on the original show. No clue they had their own show.

So you're saying Magilla Gorilla was a throwback reference to...the Lone Ranger? Wha?

Not sure I see the connection. I like Seth's animated shows but I hated H-B. But then I didn't watch those cartoons either so I may have missed the essence and subtle wit.

I am very happy I have only even heard of 3 of those (The Thing, Scrappy, & Yogi's Gang). Although I don't remember ever watching The Thing, I do remember that voice and some awful dialogue. The only assumption to be made is that I *did* watch it at one point and the mind-tapeworm thankfully ate most of it. Scrappy was annoying when he was first introduced & only served to become more so as time went on. Thankfully, I was nearing the tend of my cartoon-watching days when he was introduced, so I didn't have to suffer through much of him.

Yogi's Gang, though...ugh. Even as a child, I hated that show. I think I only watched it because it came on after Bugs Bunny & Superfriends was on right after it. Every episode was about pollution or getting along with everybody else. Yogi didn't steal picnic baskets & Ranger Smith was everyone's friend. Yuck.

The early 70s was a dark time for cartoons and wouldn't get better until WPIX discovered Battle of the Planets.

According to Wikipedia...
The Ruby-Spears studio was purchased in 1978 by Filmways Television and was sold in late 1981 to Taft Broadcasting, becoming a sister company to Hanna-Barbera Productions.

Given that, I'd have to say that this (done by Ruby-Spears in 1983) should be #1:

Both secured their place in Western animation history by flooding the market with cheap, disposable, interchangeable product. Hanna-Barbera shows are generally dominated by the same leads and tropes (couple of straight men, one goofy sidekick, a comic relief character) while Seth MacFarlane's shows feature interchangeable characters and interchangeable jokes. People can fight over whether they find the shows entertaining all they want, but I've never been impressed with the effort put into any of those shows. (Grew up on Looney Tunes and The Simpsons, if you're wondering.)

I actually do like HKP, but, I was born in 1973, so, those cartoons have fond childhood memories for me, so, it brings back kitchy memories for me. IMO as well, HKP has some more redeeming qualities than the stuff that did make this list (and my example of horrible HB related cartoons). But, you probably guessed I was serious once you got down to that I also liked Laff a Lympics.

Sky Commanders was a painfully literal take on the toyline. The cartoon alleged that the characters had mastered new "laser cable" technology, which meant the good guys and bad guys slide around on grappling cables they can summon instantly,

Hanna-Barbera was the Seth MacFarlane of its day.

From Wiki:
(The Turner Rebound, 1991)
"He immediately filled the gap left by the departure of most of their creative crew during the Great American years with a new crop of animators, writers, and producers, including Pat Ventura, Craig McCracken, Donovan Cook, Genndy Tartakovsky, David Feiss, Seth MacFarlane, Van Partible, Stewart St. John, and Butch Hartman and new production head Buzz Potamkin.[17] In 1992, the studio was renamed H-B Productions Company, changing its name once again to Hanna-Barbera Cartoons, Inc. a year later.[18]"

Well, well, well.

I love Scrappy-Doo. I have incredibly fond memories of watching the 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo. I don't think I ever saw all thirteen episodes even though I know I saw the Bermuda Triangle episode at least 4 times.

Also, I am certain that I watched the movie Scooby-Doo and the Ghoul School at least 15 times when I was younger.

And once more two years ago.

Scrappy Doo was truly evil... think about it... until Scrappy Doo came along, NONE of the so-called "ghosts" the Gang encountered were actual ghosts; they were usually some old guy trying to scare people away from a property. AFTER Scrappy Doo came along, the Gang started encountering REAL ghosts and paranormal trouble makers.

I contend that Scrappy Doo conjured those evil spirits.

loved wacky races and laff a lympics
wasen;t there one about a carrier pidgon? i do not know if that was HB or not. loved that as well

I was and still am a huge scooby-doo fan. but scrappy sums everything that is wrong in the world to me.

born in 72
did not really mind the CB bears.

Loved Captian CAAAAVE MAAAAAN! the the 3 hotties he hung around with.

Oh, and CSB:

I worked at a theme park in a store called Scooby-Doo Just For You.

We had a whole bunch of awesome Hanna-Barbera little stuffed animals (Scooby was the biggest seller, but we also had Quickdraw McGraw, Hong Kong Phooey, and others).

Strangely, though, we only saw one Shaggy stuffed animal the entire summer. We found him in the back, among the Scoobies.

And before you ask, yes, we posed him being spit-roasted by two Scooby dolls on the shelf directly behind the cashier.

I'm confused and slightly distressed that I grew up in the 80s and have never heard of these Sky Commanders as a toy or cartoon. Seems like the perfect disappointing gift I would have received.

I would pay money to see that. Except they'd probably cast Rob Schneider as Capt Caveman...

10 years ago, I'd have agreed with you... I don't think anyone is trying to cast him in anything significant anymore.

My guess would be like a Jonah Hill... Capt. caveman comes off to me as being a bit overweight.

Probably would get some post-Disney teen show girls to be the Teen Angels, so, I have no idea who those would be.
