Well, time for the usual suspects to be round up.
Glad this is the most pressing issue facing the nation.

So, can a Republican apologist please explain to me how this is either Republicans not supporting tax cuts or being evil by playing politics with one of their core beliefs?

Which way is the spin going to go today?

FTA: "Frankly, the fact that the president doesn't like it makes me like it even more," said Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan, a leader of House conservatives, who added he had supported an earlier version, as well.

Classy. Very classy. Can't you tell how serious he takes his job to work toward the benefit of all Americans?

Isn't there a (simple) video game we can give congress? If they want to play games all the time, at least they wouldn't damage the country.

Maybe Americans should just start voting directly for lobbyists.

Maybe Sleeping Monkey is suggesting that we should actually know which company representatives we're voting for, unlike the current batch who lie their asses off about who owns them.

Well, as someone once suggested, maybe our legislators should wear NASCAR jackets.

Wow, they're not even thinly veiling the fact that they simply do not like the President and that motivates their every decision.

Sickening.

That's cool. If it looks like the Republican version with the oil pipeline extortion gains strength, someone simply needs to add an additional rider repealing the Hyde Amendment. Seeing as unrelated stuff is being added and all.

I'm willing to allow the oil pipeline in exchange for federal funding for abortion AND the tax cut. Or we can dump both amendments and simply go with the tax cut. The Republicans can choose which.

A move to repeal the Hyde amendment would be admitting that the Hyde amendment exists. If the GOP admitted that the Hyde amendment exists it would make it slightly more awkward whenever the GOP tried to add pointless items to bills to finally stop DC using taxpayer dollars for abortions.

The GOP is working feverishly to get Americans jobs (to make the oil pipeline) and the Democrats want American workers (of oil companies) to suffer.

In other news, Michelle Obama will soon be dropping her "let's move" campaign and starting a "don't drink bleach" campaign to help educate children of the dangers of drinking household chemicals.

I hope the Dems stay strong. The Republicans will suffer if they fail to extend this payroll tax cut. Even the teabaggiest of the teabaggers would hate to see their taxes go up just because the Republicans didn't get an unrelated oil pipeline. Even Norquist would roast Republicans for that.

It's not really unusual in itself, personality conflict has always played a big role in who votes for what in representative democracy.

Even the fact that it's organized and somewhat unified isn't really new so much as SOP for a parliamentary minority. It's not necessarily pleasant in the day-to-day sense, but it's the way it's worked since Rome took the first go at the system... generally people work around it.

The whole "intentionally sabotaging routine bills on a regular basis" game, though, historically that tends to precede the final death of a political party/faction. G'bye, GOP, the 1990s version of you may possibly be missed. Enjoy the entirely precedented temporary surge before the crash, I guess.

We should listen to the Republicans!

www.escapeest.com

We offer you the bond of family that very few oilmen can understand. I'm fixed like no other company in this field and that's because my Iraq well has just come in. I have a string of tools all ready to work. I can load a rig onto trucks and have them here in a week. I have business connections so I can get the lumber for the derrick; such things go by friendship in a rush like this. And this is why I can guarantee to start drilling and put up the cash to back my word. I assure you, whatever the others promise to do, when it comes to the showdown, they won't be there...

The pipeline will keep energy cost down, create lots of jobs and the "citing environmental and safety concerns" is bullshiat. Pipelines are a very well known entity Mr Obama. Obama is the one playing politics here. He's afraid he'll lose an environmental base for his election if he helps to keep energy costs down for the masses. Pipelines are the safest way to transport massive amounts of cheap energy and create a huge amount of jobs.
He is so disingenuous. Somehow congress could cram a gigantic, extremely complicated, with many unknown details Obamacare bill through congress before Christmas, but a simple, safe pipeline requires lots of time and study? Please, we have built many of pipelines before. I see your bullshiat Obama! So do the unemployed looking for work.

Oh don't worry, just the other day they spent much of the day debating and eventually passing a bill that bans the EPA from regulating dust from agriculture despite the EPA specifically stating they have no regulations or intentions of ever regulating such.

thirdrail: Wait so how is a pipeline going to pay for the tax break? I thought the disagreement wasn't about the tax cut itself but how it was going to be funded.

Boehner is claiming that it will create tens of thousands of jobs instantly. He's taken a beating over not producing any jobs so he's trying to shift the blame anywhere else but on his House. Besides, he needed the pipeline to get the numbers in the House. Don't forget he's saddled with a bunch of lunatics in his own party that he has to work with.

There's more than just the pipeline that the Republicans have thrown in there, too.

The Republican bill also would overturn an Obama administration rule that bars states from conducting drug tests for recipients of unemployment compensation and would include income-based eligibility for food stamps, according to Representative Aaron Schock, an Illinois Republican.

Pelosi and Obama have a point here-what does extending a tax cut have to do with an oil pipeline? And since when are Republicans against tax cuts? I guess if Obama is for it they are automatically against it.

2011-12-09 02:31:36 PM
The unions support the pipeline because it creates thousands of jobs. So Obama will have to choose between two lovers, the environmental whack-jobs, or the thugs.

2011-12-09 02:31:46 PM
Can anyone explain to me how anyone got so up in arms about this particular pipeline? I mean, I'm relatively left, relatively Green, and relatively growth-skeptical. But, yeah. It's an oil pipeline. We have literally thousands of petrochemical pipelines going up and down the middle of the country. There are two different ones across my family's South Dakota quarter-section. I know guys who are on pipeline-laying crews working right now.

It almost seems like something largely symbolic that's been spun up, just so Obama or whoever can concede it as a chess pawn.

Well, clearly since it is impossible to make the situation better so long as His Muslin Lordship Taxbongo is ruling with his Marxist Iron fist and laying waste to whole swaths of good American jobs; the only, rational, sensible, patriotic, American answer is to do everything humanly possible to further ruin America (not that our Kenyan overlord needs much help!) and open the eyes of the good, simple, hardworking, salt of the earth American people (you know, morons) to the havoc this attractive and successful administration is reaping on our once beautiful nation.

I say this man is an American Hero; willing to make (other people) sacrifice everything; to tear down what he loves most (Other than bribes, kickbacks, gifts from lobbyists, the feeling of absolute power of men, and male hookers) in order to save it from this most terrible threat.

If it's such a slam-dunk, pass it on its own merits. Don't attach it to an unrelated payroll tax bill and try to strong-arm it through.
