is it time for Fark's daily biatching about how Rock doesn't like it used to when onion belts were the rage? This will be especially interesting considering he's promoting an album with a Ke$ha duet, which I'm sure will be conveniently overlooked by others in this thread.

I'd rather listen to bands that concentrate on making good music rather than living up to some retarded, out-dated rock star image.

I would say he knows exactly what Rock n Roll is all about.

From Wikipedia: "While Cooper was thinking of a character to play the devil on Welcome 2 My Nightmare, he came across Kesha at the Grammys and said that she had the qualities of a "rock singer." In typical Alice Cooper fashion (harkening back to Billion Dollar Babies when Donovan sang with Cooper on the title track), he decided to bring Kesha in to work on the album because it would be unexpected.[23] Cooper said about Kesha, "I think a lot of my audience is going to go KE$HA!?, but she probably wrote the most disgusting lyrics in the song - we had to rein her in."[24] According to Cooper, many of her lyrics had to be toned down for the album. Kesha plays the part of the devil, continuing from "I'll Bite Your Face Off", telling Alice that it's time to pay the ultimate price: his soul.[25]"

While there is certainly an element of "Get offa my lawn!" here, you have to admit from his perspective of blending Rock and Roll with performance art, yeah Nickelback is going to look pretty tame to him.

People are just pissed off because unlike Ozzy, Alice never fell for his image. And as of the Trash tour, he could still bring it on stage. Farking awesome show!

Do you remember when bands sounded different? Thanks to technology, a bunch of new bands vocally all sound the same....

2011-12-09 10:09:36 AM
There's no one right answer really. If you can come up with a visual part of your performance that fits what you're doing musically, you can make your show better for your fans. If it doesn't fit, don't do it; the people are paying because they like your music, not your hair and make up (or you're a terrible farking excuse for a musician and they aren't smart enough to know better.)

I was under the impression Rock and Roll was about entertainment. If I were suddenly awesome at guitar and people recognized my singing talent for what it was (ha!) I wouldn't start dressing like 70s Bowie, as much as I like him as an artist.

Based on "Alice's" definition of rock and roll, Glen Buxton was the only true rock and roller in the original band.

Most rock bands haven't been doing the elaborate costume crap for decades. Nearly every metal show I've been to since the mid 90s, the bands are just out there in T-shirts and either jeans or shorts, Which makes a lot more sense when you're doing an outdoor concert in Texas in July.

Very few bands are able to amplify their performance with theatrics. Many times, theatrics are just a cover up to hide the fact that the songs aren't very good live.

Was not expecting the smackdown that you farkers are giving Alice Cooper. Impressed! Faith in humanity restored. To quote Beavis and Butthead (watching Helmet): "they look like regular guys"

Actually, the lack of a show is probably a show, too, i.e. intentional. Post-modern, hipsterish, "we're above that".

I've heard they're always good. I didn't care for their cover of "Psycho Killer" from Phoenix X103.9's studio, but its hard to live up to the strangely awesome that is the Talking Heads. CtE's original stuff is all good.

I head out to local metal shows and everyone there usually has on black shirts and an arm sleeve full of tattoos ... the bands are mostly dressed in black metal shirts and at least one person in the band has long hair.
