I don't blame them. If the kids won't play nicely together and share, you take away their toys.

For the third year in a row, a local pastor plans to launch a salvo at City Hall because it's bereft of religious Christmas imagery, which he says discriminates against Christians.

So no religious imagery = anti-Christian discrimination.

I read that as 'Gingrich steals holidays from Boca Raton'

Anti-Christian, anti-Jewish, anti-Muslim...yes. I'm pretty sure that's what "no religious imagery allowed this year" means.

I'm getting so tired of explaining this:

Things that are inclusive of everyone are still exclusive to Christians. It's just logical...if you completely ignore the meanings of words.

"Just when you think the city of Boca Raton officials would join in the Christmas spirit, they have engaged in an act of insanity," said Mark D. Boykin of the Church of All Nations.

This weekend, Boykin will ask his congregants to fashion small creches and join him in carrying them to City Hall on Tuesday. "All we're asking is just put up a creche, put one up in the spirit of unity," he said.

Is there a goddamn reason you can't put the creche on your own farking property? Oh, you're attention whores who feel the need to proselytize. Got it. Fark off.

Wow. I read that headline as the Grinch removing Bacon Raton. Glad to see it wasn't that serious.

FTFA: "All we're asking is just put up a creche, put one up in the spirit of unity," he said.

I fully support their right to protest, but it seems counterproductive (for the purpose of creating a universal sacramental consciousness) to put up an exclusivist religious symbol. Can't really build genuine unity out of officially sanctioned exclusivity.

Shock! No city Christmas decorations! How will we ever go on with our lives?

For the third year in a row, a local pastor plans to launch a salvo at City Hall because it's bereft of religious Christmas imagery, which he says discriminates against Christians.

Yeah, that exactly how it works. "You're not making us front and center so you're oppressing us!" But thanks for proving my opinion of Christianity right again, I appreciate it.

"All we're asking is just put up a creche, put one up in the spirit of unity," he said.

"Look, it's a tiny violation of the 1st Amendment. Just one small symbol that we're better than everyone else, that's all we think we deserve."

Was just in Florida, saw Christmas decorations on palm trees. Sacrelige.

We should celebrate Christmas like the first Americans in Massachusetts did:

Whosoever shall be found observing any such day as Christmas, or the like, either by forbearing labor, feasting, or any other way upon such account as aforesaid, every such person so offending shall pay for each offense five shillings as a fine to the country.

You could buy a palm tree with lights at Target in Florida.

Regarding Boca: to steal a line from Goodfellas: "its like you died and went to Jew Heaven".

I don't think they'll be shedding tears for missing Santa displays.

If only there were special buildings where religious stuff was tolerated. They could be meeting places for others who believed the same things. Maybe they could meet there once a week.

Too bad we don't have any buildings like that.

Of for FU@K sake! As an athiest I have nothing against Christmas displays -either secular in nature (e.g. Santa) or religious (e.g. manger). Same applies to other holidays such as Hanukkah.

What I do object to is:

1) Forced participation in religious activities (e.g. mandatory prayer in public schools).
2) Constructive forced participation in religious activities (e.g. forcing public school kids who don't pray to stand in the hall during morning prayers)
3) The expectation that I should modify my behavior to accommodate your religious beliefs (e.g. banning Sunday shopping).

Useless facts:
The intended original meaning of the city's name is "Port of thieves." It used to be Boca Ratones, before they dropped the last two letters off. There was a hidden inlet/cove in the SE corner (at what's now Lake Boca on Camino Real) where pirates were rumored to hideout back in the 1800's before the city existed.

You're the second person today that I've seen call Santa Claus a secular figure.

At least you have the excuse that you are an athiest.

Well, seeing as how "Santa Claus" is based on Sinterklaas et al, I'd say he's got religious roots. The modern Santa Claus, however, has been so far removed from its roots that I think it's safe to call it secular.

Good for them. I wish more cities reacted this way to the annual December 'Who can be the most offended by inconsequential shiat' contest.

They should blow everyone's minds and put up a bunch of Saturnalia decorations.

Stupid. You put up lighted stars, snowflakes and candles on the lamp posts, and decorate everything with fake evergreen garland and wreaths. That covers Christmas, Yule, Hannukah and Diwali without any overt sectarian imagery.

Sounds more like the work of the Grinchensteins and the Grinchengolds. Of course they don't want Christmas decorations in Boca, everyone there is Jooish.
