I think AA is making a big mistake here.

Asking for an apology is alright.

Putting him on the no-fly list is overkill, as he has already spoken that he refuses to fly on the airline again.

Stopping airing 30 Rock is just ridiculous and insulting to Alec Baldwin's acting career. What good would this do? It's just spiteful.

Being "extremely rude" to the crew is all they will say. What does that entail exactly? What words were spoken?

Finally, I think they are handling this wrong simply because those who are famous are supposed to get special treatment. It makes it look like, if they're going to kick Alec Baldwin off a plane, they wouldn't have any qualms with kicking regular shmoes off. This will blow up in their face in time.

The no-fly list for terrorists? Oh good, being rude is now terrorism.

You know, flight attendants, if you overreacted this much while in the air, the air marshal would wrestle you to the ground and taze you.

He's off the plane and the FAA has a handle on him. You'll get over it.

Isn't it illegal to exploit the no-fly list by making unfounded accusations of terrorism?

I think it's up there with filing a false DMCA.

Criticizing the no-fly list is actually one of the ways you get put on the no-fly list, Citizen.

The other thing I don't like is, despite his temper tantrum, Alec Baldwin is not a safety threat to the airplane. They kicked him off for being rude, but putting him on the no fly list seems excessive.

He comes across as an unlikable guy. They should have just let him rant and rave and look crazy, knowing he will not use their services anymore instead of making people sympathize with him because of the overreaction.

I agree. It seems like AA doesn't have a public relations branch of any sort.

Where did American Airlines say any of these things?

*reads FARK headline*

Nope. The company is being relatively quiet about it. The union for the flight attendants, OTOH, seems to be upping the gain on their derpitude.

I travel very regularly for business. You don't even have to be a celebrity to be a self-important douche. I know the regulations are farking stupid but seriously, just close it down for 3 minutes and move on. And take a farking shower - people on planes just flat out smell bad these days. Also if you have the misfortune to end up in a middle seat you own both armrests. I flew from Denver yesterday and it was a shiatshow, smelly fatties, seating group 2 gate crashers, over full carryon stuffing and someone puked in the aisle.

Yep. Annoying? Yeah, Alec can be. Disruptive? If he was really banging on the walls of the bathroom, sure. No fly list? Think you just went a bit too far, union.

Would rather have Alec on my plane as opposed to...oops, I'm going to get accused of profiling in a minute...

If they take 30 Rock off AA flights, I'm afraid they might bring back the CBS partnership and I simply can't take any more Everybody Loves Raymond.

Actually, there he might be referring to the trip to the lav. I can't think of a time when electronic devices are prohibited that the seatbelt sign isn't also on. If the plane was buttoned up and they were about to push back, nobody should be in the aisles and there are damned good reasons for that rule.

My mother once panicked on a plane as we were getting ready to take off from LAX on a Continental DC-10. It was making some strange, rhythmic mechanical noise that was probably hydraulics under our seats. She was already a nervous flyer and had never been able to think of a DC-10 as a safe plane after the Chicago crash. She jumped up to ask the flight attendant if something was wrong. Mind you, we weren't at the gate, we were literally next in line for take off.

Being the mid-1980's, she was just yelled at. I think today she'd have been arrested.

CSB time

Lately I've noticed (say in the last year or so) that during takeoff in the Airbus A318-A320s for about 10 minutes there's some odd, very loud humming noise below the seats in the first 10 rows or so. I don't recall that being the case prior to about a year ago. Just weird if you ask me.

God forbid you let some person grope you for a minute. God forbid you allow someone to zap you with radiation for 5 seconds. Nevermind that neither of those things reliably prevent the things they're meant to prevent.

But why complain, citizen? It's for the greater good. Complaining about it just temporarily inconveniences others, and you wouldn't want to do that now, would you? Just step out of the line for a moment and we can discuss it.
