I am outraged. How dare these guys betray the public trust.

I too am outraged. I mean, Jack Daniels, really?

So they were really fired because they snatched the congressman's hooch.

I love news writers humble enough never to expect someone might want to know what friggin state this all happens in for a paper that considers itself the center of the universe.

I'm sure these dudes still edit in France for Paris, France in case a reader might have ventured out of the county and realized there are mythical cities beyond the county line.

If you're making government money then it's nothing less than the best! Booker's is only about $50. The taste of a 90 proof bourbon combined with the high alcohol content of a 120 proof bourbon

*chuckle*

And, hopefully, he'll fire whoever hired them, or they report to. Or both.

(this place needs an edit feature)

Why? Even if it had been who you initially thought it was, party affiliation has little to do with it. Any what is the politics tab without self-righteous derperstorms?

/Largent lost the Republican primary for OK Governor a few years ago; no idea what he's doin these days

Really? Are you sure this Mr. Larson is a Republican???? Some people are just a little too eager to jump into a partisan biatchfest that they won't let facts get in the way.

This story has everything to do about stupid 20-something staffers and not much to do about Democrat Rep. Larson (WA). Derp on Descartes, Derp on.....

If they were senior staffers they'd have known where the Congressman's stash of lobbyist-gifted Johnny Walker Blue was.

Come on, he's already admitted that he got this moron confused with another moron with a similar-sounding name. Since the two are of different parties, I think we can conclude that both sides are, in fact, bad.

Getting fired for shenanigans really depends on where you sit in the organizational chart.
These people were bottom level, so goodbye. The alpha males can do as they please.

Anyone else follow the link to the original story? No question the staffers deserved to be fired, but the comments are something else.

Steve Largent used to be a Seattle Seahawk when I lived there, and his political career was news up there. I saw the "KIRO" source and just had a brainfart.

BitwiseShift: I'm sure these dudes still edit in France for Paris, France in case a reader might have ventured out of the county and realized there are mythical cities beyond the county line.

The paper in Anderson, Indiana would always add a line like, "on Sept 11, 2001, Muslim terrorists flew two planes into the World Trade Center, bringing down the Twin Towers" after they mentioned anything to do with 9/11 like a memorial service or something for years afterward. Like the readers were going "9/11, 9/11, doesn't ring a bell, oh *that* 9/11".

Thanks to the focus on the GOP, the Politics tab has gotten quite boring. Perhaps if we subjected the current administration to the same scrutiny for usurping Civil Liberties that we did the last administration(and rightly so) we'd have a little more fun.

December to Remember? Sounds like fun; not like anything is actually getting accomplished on capital hill right now anyways. Notice they were fired for posting things about their drunkeness, not for being shiatfaced and farking around at work all day. Can't really say I fault them, I used to be quite the party animal when I was first out of college, though I wouldn't be drinking before work, that's just stupid.

Well, depends on the job... If it's a soul-sucking, low-paid, menial job, you'd be stupid not to.

Hell, when I was working for a roofing company, we regularly had bone breaks during the day. Same when I worked in restaurants. I used to keep a travel mug of Irished up coffee on my station for the dinner rushes and the kitchen staff kept a packed bowl out by the dumpsters for "cigarette" breaks. Don't even get me started on the alcoholics and junkies I worked with on crab boats...

There's a reason some people work blue collar jobs their entire lives and never earn more than $30k a year. These guys are congressional staffers, they're basically cream of the crop coming out of college and are working in one of the richest cities in the country!

Sure, some fart-barking sweetie stacks a few Iraqis in a Tehran prison and somehow GW is personally responsible. But some lib's personal henchmen booze it up on the job and brag about how little work they do and the lib is in no way held accountable.

Or something like that.

Outrage gene malfunctioning. Sorry.

FlyinS: Not sure if serious

There's a hierarchy, sure. The top tier go to Wall Street. The second tier goes to Capital Hill. After that come your generic big business types, typically consulting. The only exception is medical, since they don't leave school until their 30s.

Consulting and Banking are more or less the same (read: way above capital hill).

LAs/LCs get 30-60k, consultants/bankers start at 110-160k. Trust me, it's way easier to find a job on the Hill than with McKinsey or Bain.
