2011-12-08 09:28:53 PM
hes a-spec, not high

this place is getting more and more retarded every day.

2011-12-08 09:39:48 PM
Ok, Subby, why was he high?

Dude, stay away from the Politics tab. Srsly, it will crush your hopes and dreams.

The Conde Nast guy is handsome, photogenic, well-spoken, and clearly highly skilled in typing. Even if he isn't the absolute fastest typist on the planet, he could be the sport's golden boy.

2011-12-08 10:01:01 PM
Daaaamn; that's like the secretary olympics!

2011-12-08 10:03:39 PM
I gotta admit I was surprised, I figured the number would be near 200wpm.

I'm at about 120 last I checked. I feel like I might actually have a shot if I competed in one of these things.

/not that I will

That was exciting watching a swag contest at a trade-show vendor booth. From last year. It was almost like being there.

2011-12-08 10:10:20 PM
The dude who won was such a geek he couldn't lift the over-size check all the way over his head.
(It took me longer to type this than he needed for his 500 word test.)

You ever compete in the Ultimate Typing Championship.......on weed?

Look at the size of those lenses...

To be fair, my fastest, least error-prone typing happens about 3 days into a week-long allnighter when I'm usually high as a kite off caffeine and lack of sleep. At a certain point, my brain stops going "And then hit that key and then hit that key and then hit that key", and lets my fingers take over.

/My fingers are much better parallel typers than my brain.

2011-12-08 11:06:07 PM
he probably gets lots of practice taunting other world of warcraft players. "you guys all suck, you cannot defeat me, I am so much stronger than you.. I just typed that in 1 second while dispensing 5 potions at the same time"

and what's with the look on that girl's face?

More Asp-y than Stoney. Unless that's what a-spec means and I'm retarded. Or high.

I was picking up a bit of an Asperger's vibe from his brief interview. Either that or he just was an ungracious winner.

+1 good sir. Hadn't seen that one brought out in awhile

Every nerd that shows up on fark gets labeled with Asperger's these days. All I saw was some dorky guy that can type quickly.

Those same vibes could be a result of a Geek combined with an Ivy League education.

(Not bashing Cornell at all. The majority of people I know that go/went/worked there are generally impressive and friendly.)

Wow!

A) I didn't even know this crap existed.

B) I thought I was fast at about 105.

C) Nachos.

$2000 is a pretty miserable prize for something like that nowadays.

He wasn't high.. just asocial.. or one of those other a- words. Thought it was interesting how he matched every single geek/nerd stereotype that exists.

Like I said, it was just a vibe and I was making a snap judgment based on his comments, demeanor and the fact that competitive typing is the kind of past-time that might appeal to someone with Asperger's. I am not a doctor. I have not applied the extensive testing involved in making such a diagnosis and in all likelihood he was just being ungracious (or maybe the film had been edited to just take those comments out of the whole context).

2011-12-09 07:10:07 AM
The music and fast paced video did not make that any more exciting.

2011-12-09 08:03:54 AM
Um ...medical transcriptionists type that fast all the time ...those guys must have just been the best at the trade show.

Not that impressive... although very fast typing.

2011-12-09 08:16:58 AM
Because when I think Ultimate Typing Championship, I think about a random booth at some insignificant trade show...

Potions have a 120 sec cooldown.

Uh...sorry, they're slow. Put them up against a deaf person who spends a lot of time on PCs and TDD systems. My friend's brother could wipe the floor with them easily.

If they're deaf, how are they going to see the screen?

2011-12-09 09:39:38 AM
Next time they should use those IBM clicky-keyboards.

2011-12-09 09:47:57 AM
You'd think that if they were geeky enough to hold typing contests, they'd be geeky enough to allow

Colemak
colemak.com

or

Dvorak
clojure.roboloco.net

keyboards.

I wouldn't be surprised if both of these dorks were efficient on those, too.

/ Your wrists wouldn't be so tired, Loser.
// tried Colemak for a week -- crashed and burned

There is much truth to this - it's why some people can fight faster. Removing the conscious processing from an action makes it faster for the most part. Now all you have to do is train yourself to do that without the other circumstances.

There is a difference from what someone would normally type and what they were typing in the contest. There is also a difference between typing out your thoughts and copying someone else's.

AAAAAAAAAAAA TYPE-TYPE-TYPE-TYPE-TYPE-TYPE-TYPE-TYPE-TYPE!!!!!!

Agreed. In typing tests where I just have to type my own words and it follows the speed I can hit about 120-130 WPM most of the time. If I'm having to copy what is on the screen I drop massively to about 95-100 WPM.

The world record is something over 200 wpm and that's on a regular typewriter. How the hell is 124 wpm on a computer impressive?

nice exclusion of the 167 from the 1st round. also nice exclusion of a citation of over 200.
