They need interior help, not a perimeter shooter. Good defender though.

If they don't win it all this season, the big three will be disbanded. At least one of them (Bosh) will go.

I hope they have a twelve game losing streak to open the season. Hilarious, that would be.

Ack. This is not good.

He may have played for Duke, but Battier always struck me as a pretty good guy.

Battier seems like a good guy and a better pro than I thought he would be

Battier will be good but they really need to get off their asses and sign Inspector Gadget to defend Dirk's jumper.

This is actually a really good move for them. Battier takes a lot of pressure off of LeBron and Wade on D, he can shoot, and he's a pretty awesome guy by all accounts so that has to help in the locker room. He's just the type of role player the Heat need to fill out the squad and give them some degree of depth.

/I don't hate the Heat
//If anything, the excessive (IMO) backlash against them has made me a bit sympathetic

I don't, but thanks anyway.

Caron Butler to the Clippers, by the by. You know, if this turns into the general NBA signings talk thread it probably will.

Always been a fan of Battier's, nice to see him getting on a team with a real shot at a ring.

Actual Farking: He may have played for Duke, but Battier always struck me as a pretty good guy.

this. good player. seems to be a decent man.

this is not good news because he actually can help the heat win and plays all four quarters even. i thought the article awhile ago about how battier helps teams win in ways that traditional stats do not capture was rather interesting.

Dude, it's Shane Battier. It's impossible to hate someone so inoffensive to anyone and anything.

I'm not saying I was in favor of The Decision and how everything went down, but the reaction ever since has been *way* over the top. Again, IMO.

Actually, I don't hate the Heat. At least they're putting forth a winning effort. The Timberwolves, however, can suck my dick.

It seems like the Lakers are getting the Rockets invovled to try to get Chris Paul. Like so:

Lakers get: Paul

Rockets get: Pau Gasol

Hornets get: Kevin Martin, Luis Scola, probably draft picks.

I guess Boston is trying to get involved too by offering Rondo.

As a huge Lakers fan - WHY THE FARK WOULD WE DO THAT??? God I hope that's not the trade. I do not understand the desire to get rid of Gasol. He's awesome. I love him and he makes our team so much farking better. Without Gasol we'd be relying on Andrew Bynum for our entire interior.

That's bad.

Let's get this strait.

The backlash wasn't directed at the heat...it was directed at Lebron...and more specifically to his self-love-fest special he had to announce his decision. And then he followed that douche-fest with a his "not one, not two, not 3....not 8 rings speech."

Putting together "super team" has been one before and it'll be done again...so it isn't about him going to miami. He's a free agent...he can play wherever he wants...But don't act like a giant douche, then act all surprised when people call you a giant douche.

If they could pull that, then maybe. I just can't see them getting both.

I think I'd be much happier to just have Howard/Gasol/Kobe. I'm kind of worried how Paul could co-exist with Kobe.

I'd say that was true up until the finals, but then considering that:

a) Wade openly mocked Dirk and acted like the series was already over, which was pretty arogant considering the only reason Miami beat the mavs before was blatantly one-sided officating. All that swagger and posturing was premature and unearned, and it reminded most of us 'oh yeah, this was the guy who got 20 free points per game last time he was in the finals thanks to the officials and then strutted around and acted like he was MJ even though we all knew that championship was shady as hell'

b) The dude with 'the chosen one' tattoo, who obviously thinks the world of himself and seemed genuinely surprised when his hometown fans didn't just dump their team and hop on a bandwagon to support a (semingly) sure thing like he'd done his whole life choked, badly, again, and this time didn't have an excuse like 'my teammates suck and I was on my way out anyway.'

Sorry, I don't see much to like or sympathize with there. They thought they were the s**t, acted like it, and then got a reality check. I'm okay with this.

I'm not the type to care too much about stuff like that. Not that I like it, it's just...all they've done is act arrogant. Not good, but far from the worst thing I've seen in the sports world. I've seen less venom spewed at actual criminals.

a) Miami had to go through Chicago AND Boston to get to the Mavs. They had a reason to be a little confident. Dirk looks like a goof. Of course he's going to make fun of him. Also, stop whining about the previous finals. No one like a cry baby.

b) Cleveland had SEVEN years to build a team around LeBron and they did jack-shiat. It took Chicago about the same time with Jordan to start getting into championship form. The only difference was that Jordan had Pippen, and a team who could actually farking play, unlike the worthless losers on the Cavs that they surrounded LeBron with. You can't win a ring with ONE guy. Allen Iverson proved that. He's a great player, but you need more than just him.

This is pretty much the last year for Miami to win a ring until someone gets traded. Don't worry, if everything works out for the Lakers, they'll have Dwight Howard, Chris Paul, AND Kobe Bryant on the same team, so there's gonna be more blind hatred for retards following shiatty teams to lash out at.

The NBA is the only league where, when you get knocked out in the conference finals (Bulls) or the finals (Heat), immediately everyone starts yammering about what you need to put yourself over the top and how half the team needs to be blown up, rather than going "hey, conference finals or finals? You did pretty good! Maybe you'll win it next year!"

While I agree that I don't think they can pull off both of them, Paul did look incredible next to Kobe and Shaq in the all-star game a few years back. Yeah, it was an all-star game, but still.

Actually this just makes me hate Houston more for letting him go in the first place.

Battier was always one of my favorite players because he's smart as hell, knows how to play, and an all-around nice guy.

You mean like the situation with Durant and Westbrook, where people aren't happy that Westbrook is getting more shots this year than last year and possibly screwing up the chemistry?

I think they Bulls need to do something. Rose got D'ed up and the team looked really slow. Wade looked like he was playing in fast forward in that series.

No, more like as much as I love Kobe I don't see how he is happy or effective without having the ball in his hands all the time. And Chris Paul is the same way. Kobe works best with a complementary PG and big support inside.

Yeah, because the Yankees have never changed their roster following a successful season because they didn't win the World Series. Also, I haven't heard anything about what the Patriots need in order to win another Super Bowl despite losing only like 30 games since winning their last one.

Good signing for Miami. He'll come in handy for guarding Kobe during the inevitable Lakers/Heat Sternball final.

Lakers have to pull the trigger on Gasol for Paul. You trade one of the game's best big men at 31 for one of the game's best PGs at 26. You just do. Especially when your current PG is 37 and your backup is Steve Blake. No offense Steve, you're a serviceable backup, but you're not Lakers starter material.
