Shiat, I have to live in Indiana? What did I do to deserve this?

Why would he? They're going nowhere with the season, so why risk re-injuring the guy who carries the whole team on his busted-ass neck?

Hehe yeah, there are a lot of Colts fans still holding out hope for a 4 - 12 season. And it makes good sense to have your star quarterback come back ASAP from major neck surgery so your team can strive for that 4-12 season. Because if they don't attain that 4-12 mark, then where will the Colts be? There are huge differences between a 4-12 season and a 0-16 season. Differences such as the 4, the 2 and the 6 in the record. And I know I wouldnt be buying season tickets in 2012 for a 0-16 team. But a 4-12 one? Well that's a different story.

That's why this is such a shocker to everyone.

And how much did he pay Manning knowing that this was going to be a possibility?

I'm not sure which contract offer was dumber, the Colts to Manning or the Eagles to Vick.

I still say they should ransom that #1 pick to the highest bidder, and rebuild their team using their own and someone else's draft picks.
And you KNOW someone's going to be dumb enough to go the full Ricky Williams to get this guy.

No, I'm pretty sure the answer is eagles and Vick. At least Manning has a Super Bowl ring in his history, and up until this year, was never hurt.
Vick on the other hand, has played a full season once in his career.

That's not that bad of a deal. 6 years, less than $60mil with 24 guaranteed, that's not a terrible contract at all for a guy who has still played well most of the year. He just chose a really bad time to have three consecutive shiatty performances.

2011-12-08 04:00:01 PM
Well crap, guess I'll go ahead and drop him from my fantasy team.

2011-12-08 04:19:39 PM
Sure he will.... for Minnesota.

Then why not put him on IR and free up the roster spot?

He'll probably never play again. If he does, there's no chance he'll play for Indy.

It would be hilarious if Luck decided to go back to college for his senior year.

LucklessWonder: Then why not put him on IR and free up the roster spot?

I would assume the deal was from the start was that Peyton wouldn't play, so Indy can LUCK out in nexts year draft.

Peyton likely 'could' have played, but then they would have been partial successful and thus not Lucked out. The deal was that Peyton wouldn't play this season, but that they would not IR him.

Now Luck can sit behind Peyton for a few years, see how the best of the best plays the position, and thus Indy has their QB situation locked up for the next 10 years.

At least that is why I think they never IR'd Peyton.

He can't officially declare before his bowl game...well he could, but then he wouldn't be eligible for the game. A few Miami or USC players have declared but they're not going bowling.

2011-12-08 05:28:56 PM
Well good thing we got that cleared up.

Hey Colts! Call Detroit. Ask them where they got the "Owen 16" jerseys. Maybe you can get a discount by ordering them early.

Super Chronic: Vikings and Rams fans seen gnashing their teeth in despair.

The hell would the Rams want with Luck? They sank nearly $80 million into Bradford, who is pretty good when he doesn't get sacked every other play.

The Vikings seem happy with Ponder also. No one knows why, but they like him.

If the Colts draft Luck, they're dumb.

You know who else was offered a ton of picks for the spot, but the team stuck to their guns and drafted "their man"?

No, but he's got that same deer in headlights look when a pass rush comes in that Carr had.

If you were the Rams or the Vikings, wouldn't you want the best trade chip to come along in the last 10 years? A pick you could trade for another top-5 and two additional first-rounders?

Having the #1 pick is never a bad thing for anyone. At least with the new salary scale.

I wish Peyton would retire. Not because I don't like him, or I think that that Colts would do better without him. No, it's because of his neck. He's had 3 procedures done over the course of 19 months. I've had similar operations done (my C5, C6, and C7 are fused). I don't care what being fed to the media, I wouldn't have been ready to go 3 months after either of my operations. I had minimal range of motion side to side after the first op, even less after the second. I can't imaging trying to turn my head to spot oncoming linemen before they hit me, I doubt Peyton will have any better range of motion.

Peyton, it's time to retire. Any one of the networks would love to have you in their studio, coaching's an option, or you can take all the coin you've made over the years and go fishing. You've done it, you've won a Superbowl. Don't screw up the rest of your life, it's time to go.

MVP! MVP!

Fark Luck. Erm, Fark Lark, there now it rhymes. Ideal situation, we get Manning back and trade the draft pick for some defenders and additional picks in the first couple rounds. Then, we use those picks to beef up our woeful secondary and replace some of the geezers who can't play more than 10 downs a season without getting injured. Seriously, the DBs on the Colts have to be the worst in the league in almost every category imaginable. Bethea and Powers are the only two I would keep. Whoever the fark thought that Jacob Lacey or David Caldwell were better keepers than Tryon or Kelvin Hayden was a farking idiot. I blame Silver Spoon Polian for that - "the system" worked great in the past because you had 2-3 elite guys back there covering the faults of the mediocre guys. Jason David was a perfect example of a mediocre guy who thrived in that space. But when the elite guys are all gone and you have mediocre guys being supported by slightly above-average guys, you're going to be doomed for failure.

Now, as far as the injuries...Jettisoning Bob Sanders was a good start, but I'm thinking that the Gary Brackett era needs to come to an end quickly. Pat Angerer is really stepping it up with tackles this year but I think that's more an indication of how dreadful the DTs are playing, not his skillset. I think he could be fine playing outside 'backer, but he doesn't have the pass defense down well enough to be the guy in the middle long term. And, as much as I love Dallas Clark, he's also sitting there with two years in a row of non-production due to injury. These guys have the ability to be starters but given their durability problems they need to be playing second string and should be paid as such.

If the worst case scenario comes to light and Manning is done for good due to injury, then picking up Luck might not be a terrible move. Problem is, we still have all of the same defensive problems highlighted above but less of an ability to fix them through the draft. On the plus side, we get all of the Manning Money back, so maybe the Polians actually make some moves through free agency. Not that they'd make smart ones, though...

Ah, who are we kidding. Manning was the only reason the team thrived for the last decade. The front office has been shiat since long before they moved to Indy.

Snuffybud: I wish Peyton would retire.......

Not to take away from the seriousnes of the situation, but, these guys get hit multiple times in a game that would put 99.9% of us in bed for a week. Their pain tolerance is unreal, and they have access to top notch doctors and physical therapists 24/7 not to mention already being in damn good shape. They recover much faster than most people from injury, but that doesn't mean there aren't lasting issues from doing that.

I completely agree his playing days are extremely limited, but I think he'll give it a go at least 1 more season and take it from there. You just gotta hope he doesn't suddenly end up in a wheel chair because of it.

Yeah, I worry that I'm going to be watching the game where he gets permanantly disabled from a hard hit. The speed and force with which these guys hit today is nothing to mess around with if you have a neck injury.

The aftermath of a high profile injury like that would likely completely change how the game is played.

Top notch doctors and physical therapists can't make a neck move beyond its maximum range. I have difficulty turning my head to check for oncoming traffic, how's he going to turn his head to see oncoming lineman?

That's my worry too. I'll be watching a game and they'll cut away to Indy and show Peyton being rolled off the field on a stretcher. It's been 9 years and I still have numbness in my hand due to nerve damage in my neck, and I haven't been hit by a 300 pound lineman lately.

2011-12-08 08:19:47 PM
He never was going to play.

They only kept him on so he could practice a little.

But at least now they can know pretty soon whether or not it'll be worth sinking 30 mil into him next year or shove him into retirement.
