Welp, I guess Drew can now cross of Thailand as a place to visit.

So, okay.

An American citizen publishes a document on the internet while in Colorado. This is in no way a crime in America.

He is then arrested in Thailand and convicted of ranting on the internet.

...He's getting out and coming home in like two days, right? Because that seems absolutely farking ridiculous.

It is farking ridiculous. He wrote the offending messages while living in Colorado. They arrested him while he was visiting Thailand. The US government has a responsibility to one of its citizens to take care of this one.

Maybe he was going to pay some guy $400 to play doctor with an 11 year old girl transsexual child?

2011-12-08 02:14:52 PM
The king will probably pardon him soon. In Thailand I saw a movie where a homage to the king was shown as a preview and everybody in the theater stood in respect. I've found Thais to be modern and pragmatic, but never quite understood this part of their culture.

If a country has a king that is anything but a figurehead, it's a shiat hole and you should not go there. Doubly so if it's a shiathole like Thailand.

When you travel abroad, you are subject to the laws and customs of the land, no matter how absurd they may be.

We demand that our immigrants adhere to our traditions, or at the very least, be respectful of them.

Just because you are a United States Citizen, doesn't mean the Constitution applies when you visit other countries.

Lots of folks actually. Google "Medical Tourism". Plenty of countries have first world medical care that won't bankrupt you and put you in debt for the rest of eternity and for those of us who are un/under insured it's pretty much our only feasible option.

Medical tourism is huge in Thailand. A lot of people go there to get surgeries for a fraction of the cost of what they cost in the U.S. and Europe (say a $100K bypass surgery for $12K).

If I remember correctly from a previously-greenlit article from a couple months ago, he's actually a Thai expat living in the US. Maybe he went back for cheaper medical treatment than he could get here.

Regardless, the King of Thailand farks monkeys while wearing diapers and shoving shampoo bottles up his arse. At least that's what I heard. I think he also raped and murdered a youg girl in 1990, but that might have been someone else.

2011-12-08 02:18:19 PM
He does human balls, too. The King of Thailand is actually a magnificent ball licker. It's like he grew up in a country that starts training their kids to be sexual prostitutes.

I hear they have great rates on back room sex changes. In the USA you have to pass psychological tests before you can get one. I'm not sure how thinking hacking off or stapling on fake appendages will make you happy is anything BUT crazy but...

Did you miss the part where the internet posts that got him in trouble were made while he was living in Colorado? A US citizen posting from Colorado was then arrested when he visited Thailand.

That and it's a batshiat crazy law even for their own citizens.

Very true actually. I was in Thailand about 10 years ago, got food poisiong, and when I went to the hospital, I was already meeting with the doctor 20 minutes later

If I was in a hospital in the States, I would have been waiting for at least 3 hours

Is this substantively different than the British man who ran a poker site from the UK getting arrested when he had a connection in DFW?

How could you have been so remiss? You left out his mother sewing dirty socks before she made breakfast, every morning.

Dear King of Thailand:

I don't want to talk to you no more, you empty headed animal food trough wiper. I fart in your general direction. Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries. Now go away or I shall taunt you some more.

/Have to wipe that destination off the bucket list

I wonder what would happen if we just said "fark you, Thailand" and sent the some spec ops team to rescue him. The UN would probably piss and moan, but it'd get our point across.

You must have had some very serious food poisoning if you had to go to the hospital.

They have. Well, the US Embassy issued a statement, but I wouldn't expect much more than that. Perhaps they could give him legal advice or the services of a lawyer.

They can't prevent the Thai government from exercising their own laws on their own soil, even if they are absurd and draconian from a western perspective. At least he has a reasonable expectation of a pardon. I have heard horror stories of people visiting Dubai arrested and imprisoned for years on narcotics charges owing to extremely strict, absolute zero tolerance laws that make the Americans look like the Dutch in comparison. I've had medical treatment in Thailand as well - broken toe. To date, it was the most efficient medical treatment I have received ANYWHERE in the world.

A lot of the idiocy on this thread could be cured simply by getting a passport and realizing America (or whatever your home country is) is not the world.

It's a massive medical tourism destination with some of the best cosmetic and gender reassignment surgery in the world.

From what I understand, the King himself thinks this law licks goat balls and that he shouldn't be immune from criticism. In fact, TFA states:

Foreigners convicted of violating the lese majeste laws are frequently given tough sentences that are subsequently pardoned by the king. Lerpong's lawyer told the Reuters news service that his client plans on filing a pardon request in a month.

I'm not sure why he plans on waiting a month. I'd have the paperwork filled out and ready to go before the guilty verdict came down.

I kinda like it.

Thailand is a pretty cool place.
Very pretty, the people are extraordinarily nice
it has beaches, temples etc
not to mention a VERY relaxed regard to sex.

Just don't be a jackass and talk shiat about their king

If you don't like him, enjoy your rights as an american to talk mad shiat
but then don't visit to enjoy the place.

Don't be a citizen from somewhere else and talk smack.
Seriously, I wish they would do that here.
Fark this guy
If someone posted a letter talking about how crappy starbucks was, and how the people working there were arseholes
and then went there for coffee...farkers would eat him alive

There have been a few threads where we have fun insulting the king of Thailand.

It's a lot of fun, but for this reason, Drew should stay away from Thailand. Seriously, if he goes there, and Thai authorities are aware of these threads (they have an office staffed with multiple people that spend all day looking for potential insults to the king online), Drew could really be thrown into a pound-me-in-the-patpong prison.

Don't go to Thailand, Drew! Send Jeff instead!
