Archie Manning: Helicopter parent of the NFL

Archie Manning is a douche-bag. You'd think his multi-millionaire children could run their own lives.

Well, Irsay is intentionally tanking his team to get that pick, so I see no problem with screwing them over for trying to take it.

Why is Archie Manning involved in this? His "child" is a 35 year old superstar. This isn't a Jerry Maguire situation.

Peyton Manning is risky with his neck injury and his age. Curtis Painter is clearly not Indianapolis' future.

Does Payton not play well with other talented quarterbacks?

I understood Archie not wanting Eli to play for the Chargers, hell I'm a Charger fan, and at the time I was like, "yeah, I wouldn't come here either". This though, is really overstepping some boundaries. Peyton needs to tell Daddy to stand down. If he is able to without gettin' a spankin'

Did they set up a play date?

And we are done, here.

I'm sure he had a hand in the San Diego trade day idiocy.

I remember being at the first game Eli played at in San Diego after his draft. I still remember joining in with the 60 thousand plus fans cheering when Eli got hurt. That guy is a douchebag and will never be welcome in southern california

He grew up with Eli, so he's never really had a chance to try.

ManateeGag: Does Payton not play well with other talented quarterbacks?

His backups over the years have taken only a handful of snaps. Even when the game is easily won, Peyton won't turn over control. Part of the reason Painter is so bad now - he never had a chance to try. Luck won't be any different.

2011-12-08 01:46:02 PM
I thought he already recalled this statement, because the Colts informed him they are going to pay Manning and sign Luck?

I'm sure he's devastated. Besides, all I've heard is that Marmalard is a better QB, so you should be happy Eli didn't want to play there.

Not if they make Peyton Manning the offensive coordinator in 2013.

I thought this was a troll headline referencing Eli's shiat with San Diego. he really did that? what a tool. he's that insecure about his son who is one of the top QB's of all time? that's pathetic.

2011-12-08 01:50:26 PM
He's not wrong.

He also didn't hurt the Colts' leverage in trading the #1 pick, if that's what they choose to do. There are still plenty of teams who want to draft a QB and they can get them to bid against each other.

Clearly, you are unaware of just how bad and failtastic Curtis Painter really is. I know. We had to endure watching his mediocrity in college for 3+ years. And all the while Joe Tiller wouldn't switch him out and still continued praising him for his "skills" and all the school passing yard records that he was breaking. Hint: any halfway-decent quarterback could've racked up those records by playing IU, Central Michigan, and Division I-AA teams over and over again.

He should've never been drafted. The Colts only took him because they needed a cheap backup so they could still justify paying Peyton royalties. The problem was they didn't think their cunning plan all the way through and postulate what would happen if Peyton ever became unavailable.

Peyton Manning released by the Colts.

/Archie gets his wish

I think they'd "let" Peyton retire.

However, I also think that they'd let Peyton get one season back, train Luck as his backup, then let him retire.

2011-12-08 02:00:26 PM
Archie running his mouth is nothing new. It is bad for one team to have two starting quarterbacks since one wastes his talent riding the pine, but Peyton is done. The Colts need to replace him and move on, or they can Count On Losing This Sunday for years to come. They don't need a Brett Favre in Green Bay style controversy.

2011-12-08 02:04:26 PM
"Frustrated after four years of the Saints' futility and sensing New Orleans would draft Ole Miss star Archie Manning with the second overall pick of the 1971 NFL Draft, (Billy) Kilmer asked to be traded and was granted his wish on January 23, 1971, when he was traded to the Washington Redskins for linebacker Tom Roussel and two draft selections."

2011-12-08 02:06:53 PM
Does Peyton really think they'll bench him if he's healthy? And if he's not healthy- its probably his neck- and there's no way you play with a hurt neck.

Eventually Peyton is going to retire. Then he can probably be an offensive coach or even coordinator, with the gift of Andrew Luck as his QB.

Talk about "legacy!"

Here's the thing - Back in 1983, Elway told the Colts to stick it, and for good reason. Elway and Luck are both Stanford guys. Elway has told Luck why Irsay needs to stick it. Luck won't play for the Colts, and Elway will find a way to make him a Bronco.

Meanwhile, Tebow will lead the Broncos to a Super Bowl this year, where we will get trounced by the Packers. Tebow will be traded for high draft picks that will secure Luck. Bronco fans will be pissed, but they'll get over it. Luck will be a Bronco and will fulfill his destiny.

That's what will happen...unless Tebow WINS the Super Bowl. If that happens, Tebow will be our franchise guy and Luck will go elsewhere. In either case, Raider Nation can suck it!

A quarterback will only fix part of the huge fail that is the colts, and when Payton comes back next year that part will be fixed. Archie is right, they should use thier number 1 pick for something other than Luck.

Oh god

It is almost over

Archie Manning's face/words appearing every farking time I turn around. I'm hoping the last time will be when Eli retires. I'll have a farking bbq that day, invite everyone I know.

I'm sure he has already started archiving videos for different scenarios of when his grandkids and great grandkids are playing.

1.Draft Luck
2.Tell Manning that he gets one more year with the team to go for broke and tutor Luck
3.Tell Manning that after the next season he can dictate which team the Colts trade him to
a.If Manning wants to go to Arizona and all they are offering is a third round pick then that is where the Colts will trade him to
i.Even if Washington offers their next 7 first round picks and the mortal remains of every QB on their roster

Pass the pipe over here. As a Bronco fan, I like to imagine things like this but require powerful narcotics to do so.

Yes, but the problem, simply put, is that there's not a whole hell of a lot that can be done with one player - other than a consistent backup to Peyton - that will fix all the ridiculous problems with that D or that O-"line." If they're gonna say no to Luck, they better get a metric shiat-ton of picks to make up for it and a lot of the metaphysical luck to go with it.

I'm not a Colts fan at all, but: he's not wrong.

His argument makes sense: Luck is good enough to play right away, and not hold a clipboard behind Manning. As this year's shown, the Colts were utterly built behind a hall-of-fame QB running a simplistic offense which is dependent on Manning's exceptional pre-snap read and adjustment, and long familiarity between the main offensive players. The defense was dependant upon a high-scoring offense that forced other teams to be pass-happy. The end result: the Colts would be forced to play a healthy Manning, probably for the next 2 years or so, until retirement as a new QB (even a good one) would result in the difference between a contender and a 5 win team.

Luck shouldn't sit for 2 years, and Manning is not the type to want to be pushed-out the door.

That being said, I think the Colts should draft Luck and keep Manning, provided Peyton is healthy enough to play next year. It may be bad for Luck and Manning, but it's the smart move, provided the Colts use the transition time to develop a rounded squad.

In other news, he's back to manipulating the NFL draft just like he did with Eli. This is why I have eternal hatred for all Mannings and Elway.

Hope you enjoyed your 1 championship each.

I agree. Having Aaron Rodgers under Brett Favre was a nightmare scenario for Green Bay, one they'll be kicking themselves over for years now.

Couple of fumbles.
Couple of dropped kickoff returns.

Remember the Seahawks.

Now if you are talking about moving the ball down the field from their own 20, I don't see that happening.

The Ravens haven't covered 16 points in the past 8 weeks. A stretch that includes the Jaguars, Seahawks, Cardinals, and Browns.

It doesn't make sense financially. The 2 combined would eat up @20% of the Colt's cap (based on this year's cap/Manning's cap hit/ Newton's cap hit). The cap will go up next year, but Luck's pay will be higher than Newton's. Its safe to assume Luck's deal will be on par with Newton's. Probably a little higher pay, but the cap will go up, so the % should be around the same.

Good luck putting any kind of a team on the field in that situation.

/Send Peyton to an NFC team, eat some of his pay to get the deal done and use the rest to get some young talent around Luck.

//Tell Archie to eat a bowl of dicks

Archie has already backpedaled on that statement.

Regardless there are only two possibilities for the Colts next season.

1. If Peyton proves healthy he will start, and the Colts will trade the pick. Even though this would probably be bad for the team long term, there is no way Irsay and the Polians would let Peyton go.
2. If Peyton is not healthy Andrew Luck will be under center in Sept 2012.

Why not use the pick on somebody not named Andrew Luck?

Although I confess I don't know much about the talent situation in Indy, but spending that 1st rounder on a stud something or other might be a good idea.

Because there is so much hype around Luck the #1 pick will probably be worth much more than usual.
