I have a feeling the internet will not be kind to this man in the coming days.

From a practical standpoint, the way rap works is you're spitting out a bunch of words compressed to the length of a normal song. Singing takes time to sing. When you rap, it's rapid-fire talking, so you can fit a lot of message into rap.

I am shocked to discover that a 53 year old white republican lawyer has no idea what rap is. This is my shocked face.

A little background on Mr. Guirard: He was a personal injury lawyer in New Orleans specializing in auto accident claims. He had ads touting "the E Guarantee" and that's how their receptionist answered the phone. It turned out he was letting his paralegals negotiate settlements with insurance adjusters on some claims, which is more or less unauthorized practice of law. He got full-blown disbarred. Not a suspension, but disbarred.

Rap isn't music. That goes double for "Tea Party rap".

I like how the guy responds to that in the interview. He was disbarred for a 'business model' in his mind.

Ok. I know this guy is a late comer but I say album of the year.
Phat rhymes, big booty beats. Direct rip off of the '85 bears. Family Style Restaurant backgrounds. Dude has it all in that video.

I'm still trying to reconcile this guy being a Teabagger *and* a Plaintiff's P.I. lawyer.

In most cases, those are mutually exclusive groups.

Oh, I don't know.

While I'm not generally hostile toward plaintiffs' PI lawyers, some substantial minority of them are not really committed to their cause but instead are merely unscrupulous, money-grubbing bottom feeders. And, while I am not generally empathetic toward teabaggers, some substantial minority of them are not really committed to their cause but instead are merely unscrupulous, money-grubbing bottom feeders.

This guy occupies the place on the Venn diagram that is simultaneously occupied by the worst the legal profession, and the best the Tea Party, have to offer.

He's not good... there's no question. But he's not even close to as bad as I thought he'd be.

There is a part of me that imagines an old couple cruising down the road in one of those big land-boats that US car companies made in the 70s and 80s... bopping their heads to the Tea Party Anthem.

To be fair, the earliest songs I can think of that can really be called a 'rap' are Irish jigs, so at one point white people had a pretty good grasp on the form. Albeit very poor white people, not the sort that could afford the education to become lawyers.

//And now a bunch of damned Irish reels are stuck in my head, thanks, internet.

Popular rap music is little more than mindless money and gun worshipping. I'm surprised more Tea Party types don't love it.

I haven't bothered to look up the SCOTUS opinion, but I imagine it had to be pretty egregious and involve some chicanery -- maybe false statements to the bar association -- to warrant disbarring him.

When I say [in the song], "You should err on the side of life" - to "err" means to...fudge in that direction. Since we don't know, and we may never know...I mean, you don't want to end up going before the pearly gates and God says, "Well, you know, that was kinda murder..."

Interesting. I wonder if he holds the same enlightened position on the death penalty?

I seem to recall getting a letter from a paralegal years ago forwarding a settlement demand, and she said she was "willing to recommend the following settlement to my client..." and signed it as the "case manager."

Hey, wait a sec... Did you just type "SCOTUS"? For shame, counselor... (and, um, that would be La. SC, by the way.)

That's the thing, it happens all the time. I was a little surprised when I first encountered it but it is commonplace for insurance defense guys to delegate. There's a real fine line aspect to this that makes me think there must have been a lot more going on to get him disbarred.

From your link:

The board accused the lawyers of paying commissions to employees who are not lawyers.

There it is. Fee sharing with non-lawyers is a big no-no.

That sample seems to be beyond the limits of fair use, unless he's planning on calling his version a parody I guess.
