They make a good point about the news organization setting up gala dinners to honor some of the people they report on. That's just dumb. It's just as dumb if Boston Herald decided to hold a dinner honor Scott Brown, or if the Boston Globe held a dinner to honor Elizabeth Warren.

I find it hilarious that they're throwing a party for 4 politicians, while going out of the way to look neutral about it.

inkblot: I find it hilarious that they're throwing a party for 4 politicians, while going out of the way to look neutral about it.

As long as they're doing it, I suppose it's the only fair way to do it. But you're right - it's got that Fox Newsish artificial balance feel to it.

Remember, Liberals are tolerant, as long as you agree with them.

Politico is one of the worst political gossip publications out there, and yes, they help perpetuate a disconnect between democracy and governance.

They honored two politicians trying to censor the Internet and one who wants to gut Medicare. These aren't legislative goals to be proud of.

2011-12-08 10:36:03 AM
Political honored Paul Ryan for his work on health care?

Kos was right when he said, "You could have two absolutely brilliant honorees at one of these dinners, and to achieve enough neutrality to cover your ass you'd have to pair them up with whatever imbeciles you could come up with from the other side, just so that other side wouldn't call you Narnia-hating communist Nazi sympathizers. This probably should be known in the future as the Paul Ryan rule,"

The blogger has a problem with false equivalence. Problem, subby?

And Kos is right, subtard.

2011-12-08 10:42:13 AM
Ahh, Daily Kos, the Liberal equivalent of WND

2011-12-08 10:43:02 AM
Honoring Paul Ryan for making us think about cutting health care for seniors? Should we honor Herman Cain for making us think about marriage fidelity? Daily Kos is absolutely correct.

Cat Food Sandwiches: Remember, Liberals are tolerant, as long as you agree with them.

So your argument is that disagreeing with wingnuts means liberals are hypocrites? In reality, disagreeing with wingnuts means liberals are reality-based.

Wow, a false equivalence in response to a column complaining about false equivalence. How very meta.

Oh, they're pretty liberal and partisan... What they are not is bat shiat insane and consumed by conspiracy theories like the folks over a WND.

Are they still pushing the "Obama's not a citizen" bullshiat?

Yes, because Kos will never push batshiat insane theories....oh wait. Link (new window)

People need to keep calling out the false equivalence everywhere it happens. As long as we continue to allow the blatant farking lie that BOF SIDES TEH SAEM to be perpetrated, we're all guilty of the overall decline in political discourse and in the quality of people in government. So, good on TFA's author. And a bowl of dicks to cman for perpetrating the same shiat.

It's an open blogging platform, you toolbag. That's like saying Tumblr is the same as WND. Furthermore, that's from 2006. No, no, no. Now, that's all wrong. This thing will never make a present. It's been dead for much too long. Try something fresher, something pleasant!

So Politico is just doing something like what FARK did with the stupid PITA bar: Greenlit some really good articles with awesome headlines and some really derpish blog entries and poutrages Foxy articles to keep the appearance of being unbiased..

I'm not gonna lie, I was going to post some smartass comment about how "yeah this is totally wrong, it'd be like ESPN giving out awards to sports figures" but then I thought about it and realized, yes, this is retarded (so are the ESPYs for that matter).

Brilliant example of the differences between the two sites.

One, the post you linked to is by a member, not written by staff of thre sight.

Two, the position of Dkos on the 9/11 truther posts has been, "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence."

Three, If you go down through the comments, you will see many folks ripping the poster to shreds.

Four, and most importantly, Click on the posters profile. That was his last post. He was banned for repeatedly violating the policy I mentioned in #2.

Jairzinho: So Politico is just doing something like what FARK did with the stupid PITA bar: Greenlit some really good articles with awesome headlines and some really derpish blog entries and poutrages Foxy articles to keep the appearance of being unbiased..

Except what Fark actually did was greenlight the same trollish derp as always and randomly assign PITA ratings to create an illusion of balance while vomiting the same noise as every other media outlet...

I am sick of this.

If you want to stay exclusively within your Liberal circle jerk, go ahead.

But be advised that Daily Kos is as much as partisan as WND.

It's as if they threw a ceremony to honor two Middle East vets and then decided they had to throw in two terrorists like Osama Bin Laden and George W Bush.

2011-12-08 11:05:05 AM
So KOS is mad that they did not focus only on ONE SIDE(the one they are against) being evil!!
// Shocked that the FOX News of the left is upset that the two sides of the political ends were honored

I think their (valid) attack is the fact that they are specifically naming exactly two Republicans and exaclty two Democrats in an intentional attempt to be "Fair and Balanced".

Nobody is saying the DK isn't liberal, they clearly are but they are mostly way far from reaching the same level of BS and DERP like WND.

No I didn't, I know you're a troll and all, but even Republicans are fed up with feeling unrepresented by the workings of government.

Nobody is arguing that Kos isn't partisan you dolt. It is just comparing them is like comparing a man just walking down the street with the guy that is is holding "The end is near" sign. It's a stupid comparison.

I don't think anyone said it wasn't... In fact, I explicitly said it was a partisan liberal site.

However, if you think a liberal partisan site is comparable to the nonsense and shameless book plugs that is regularly passed off as "journalism" at WND, perhaps it is you who has spent too much time in an echo chamber of your choosing.

Did you know that if you try and make a lame joke about Ann Coulter being a tranny, you will get shouted down and shunned on DKos?

Not because it's mean to Ann, because it is mean to the transgendered.

If you vote for a Republican - any Republican - you are tacitly acknowledging that human rights for homosexuals and women, and a sound understand of evidence-based science are less important than...whatever the hell Republicans stand for now. Tax cuts for the wealthy? Strong defense? "Small" government?

Do individual Republicans have reasonable stances on issues? Sure. Can someone say "my Republican relative doesn't give a damn who gets married to whom," and mean it? Sure. But they obviously don't care enough to not vote for a party that calls homosexuals second-class citizens, denies basic science, and is essentially saying that if you're not Christian (or Jewish, I guess), you're less of a citizen.

That is the official stance of the Republican Party. Whatever your reasons for voting Republican, if you do it, you are a homophobe. Even if you have nothing personally against gays, you have no problem voting for a party that wants to deny basic civil rights to a whole block of people. At least admit you're a bigot.

(No, the Democrats aren't much better, but they are better. And no false equivalences about southern Democrats during the Civil Rights movement. The Democratic Party back then was far more split - a huge portion was against the Civil Rights movement, but a huge portion was for it. There are very few Republican politicians who fall on the right side of the gay marriage issue, and only a very few more who actually trust basic evidence-based science.)

Hunter should stay away from beaches. I hear there is sand there and there is no need to impact more irritating sand.
